Although I love The Who's "Pure & Easy" after the 6th "there once was a note....listen", I'm ready to say enough already.... end it.
Do they do this just to make the song fit into radio airplay standards?
We counted them one day and I think that Eddie Rabbit "Loves a Rainy Night" something like 47 times.
Or... maybe I have the attention span of a 6 year old. |

I think a song should be 7-8 minutes maximum. Anything more is just playing around for no reason. |

Thanx Brad... I hadn't thought of that song for years. Now it will be stuck in my head while I searching for a REAL song in there. Thanx alot! |

On the flip side, if you want to do a long ending to a song, the absolute perfect example of the way to do it right is... drum roll please .......Layla. |

Anyhow here on Amelia Island at the Florida House (www.friskymermaid.com) there is a singer/songwriter night every Wednesday. There's a topic, you write a tune and perform it. The ones that work are about 3-4 minutes long. You get longer than that and the vacate factor sets in. No big extended solos, most couldn't do one anyway and most acts are solo. |

It's not that repeated word thing but unless your mood is chemically altered, it lingers just a tad to long.
As far as "Bolero", ya gotta train youself to think "Bo"... not "Dudley". |

Just like Cheech & Chong movies, some songs are um, situational in as much as you can only appreciate them in certain situations.... and if those situations no longer occur in your life, the song (or Cheech & Chong movie) no longer works for you either.
I'm sure that if you wore your pants around your knees, shoes with loose laces, and a ball cap on backwards that rap songs would sound okay too. I don't feel like running the test 'cause I think I might look tooooo good, one of you try it. |

Back to the Topic. Any drum solo recorded between 1965 and 1985. In my opinion, that's what ruined it all. When bar bands started that drum solo crap, thay lost the audience. Probably responsible for disco. |

Location: Hicksville, NY | In the world of popular and rock music, unfortunately, lengthy music due to repetition of the same word or group of words (or its equivalent) over and over, can get annoying.
In the world of contemporary classical music, however, it is a good thing. I happen to love minimal music with the likes of composers: Steve Reich, Philip Glass, Terry Riley and to some degree, the music of John Adams. If you get into this genre, perhaps, you just might appreciate the same words chanted repetitiously; the same two, three, four notes replayed over and over for extended periods of time; layered on top of each other by the various instruments and voices. |
