The "new" critter arrived today. Besides a minor finish fissure below the bridge (ubiquitous, to be sure), and the need for a BIG dose of Fabreze & baking soda, its sound-as-a-dollar (current world economics, notwithstanding).
The tone is, assuredly, "woody". Totally different voice than any other "O" I have, or remember hearing in Portland, @ gh1's OFC-NW shindig.
Immediately removed the original strings (they looked that old, anyway). There's a bunch of white crap inside the bowl, and no, I'm not going to snort any of it!
The electronics work great. The frets are moderately worn, with some divots in the fretboard, in the first position. I may need to contact The Wizards about a refret/resurface job.
Can't wait to get back home, do a thorough cleaning, and restring the critter!
I will post some photos, and register at Tup's place.
Way too cool. |

My story (& delusional system), and I'm stickin' to it.
This critter may need a road trip your direction, anyhoo.
Keep the faith!! |

Location: Pacific Northwest Inland Empire | OK, recent developments. There WAS a hairline fracture through the top, below the bridge (saw a sliver of light from the porthole-side). Put the body into my homemade jig, pressed the top back into the proper plane, and slathered some cyanocrylate from the backside. Seems to be working. Put a thin ribbon of the stuff on the top of the crack, and will do some judicious scraping this evening with a single-edge razor blade & Scotchtape. |

No, I have the ultimate "O" woody......guitar.
Geez, this critter has a "full-figure" tone profile- fat bottom & broad top. Maybe I oughta call this one "Marilyn"! |

Location: Pacific Northwest Inland Empire | Jeff, I am sending my SECOND 1115 out, within the week. Now, I'm not saying your scenario is impossible, but I have some serious infatuation to process with this acquisition. So, don't hold your breath! |

is that a tobacco burst? whatever it is, i really like it. quite the "critter" ya got there. you are apparently still alive and well so i assume the white powdery stuff inside the guitar was not anthrax. |

Location: Pacific Northwest Inland Empire | Yeah, the ease of removal leads me to believe someone was "de-skunking" the critter with baking soda. At least it wasn't tomato juice!
I guess tobacco burst is the color scheme. It refinished rather well, anyway. Going after a 1537 with clamps, Superglue, scratchpads, electronics cleaner, razorblades, & rubbing compound is, admittedly, a bit ballsy & audacious, but it had to be done.
BTW, the floating fretboard is a novel piece of engineering, with an aluminum insert in it, no less! |
