A modeling Strat, much like the Variax, with all kinds of kewl tones at the flick of a switch like humbucker, Tele, Strat, 12 string, acoustic and ALTERNATE TUNINGS algh, ...uhg,...droool...1699 at Sam Ash. With signal processors getting smaller, it can't be long untill every guitar just has all this stuff just built right in. |

Location: Reno, NV | I haven't seen one in "real" life, only read about it. I believe that it was created in a co-operative effort with Roland to get the modeling up to par. Pretty sweet guitar indeed. However, In my opinion, something soulful is lost when you start adding modeling to the front-end. The thing could sound like garbage tonally, but" ahh, we'll fix it in the mix" ... Id rather have the sweetest sounding woods. Sound the way nature intended.
BTW.. I checked out one of those L6 Variax's. Not impressed at all with the build. Now this was at GC so it might just be a bad setup, but this thing had action about 1/2 inch high. WTF? |

remmeber it is a model just a substitute.
I remember when the dx 7 came out and people said OMG I can throw away my b3 rhodes and wurlitzer. guess what? those 3 instruments are worth more now than ever.
bottom line is a model is cool but when you want the real thing there is no substitute |

Location: CT | I know these will never replace 'real' guitars. I'll never get one anyway. It looks like a hoot, though, cool for practice without setting up all those stomp boxes, and I really like the alternate tunings - without having to alternately tune. Looking at it again, I'm confused about something. Both knobs have an 'N'. I'm guessing "Normal". On the one - N,S,T,H,A for Normal, Strat, Tele, Humbucker, and Acoustic. Wouldn't "Normal" on this guitar already be "Strat"? So is there 2 Strat sounds?, because the pickups look magnetic, and the guitar is a Strat. |

Location: Capital District, NY, USA Minor Outlying Islands | What I see in Brooklyn, is a lot of bass players have a Fender Jazz bass, and something like a five string variax bass with all the bells and whistles. |

Remember when solid state amps were to replace tube/valve amps? Even the old piece of crap tube amps (Kalamazoo, Sears, Silvertone) are now worth double to triple the original prices.
I used to have a Rhodes piano that I bought used, but mint, in the early 80's. Then all of the new electronic keyboards came out. I went to the local Sam Ash and they offered me $75 for it and called it a dinosaur. I let it sit in my basement for about 15 years. I sold it three years ago for $650.
New technology is nice, but it doesn't always mean better than the existing tried and true stuff. |
