Location: Phoenix AZ | I just received my 1627 Glen Campbell Artist Reissue. I am sorry to report that there is a serious problem with the guitar. Here's the pics:
The problem is that nobody warned me how good this guitar was. And like a fool, I only purchased this as a temporary adoption and the permanent owner is already lined up to take it over in a few months time. The guitar is serial number 41.
I could kick myself for being so stupid. So what to do? I could be greedy and weltch out on the deal? Depriving a nice OFC member of a great guitar that he can't find down under. I could make up some lame excuse like the guitar is damaged and in good faith I could not possibly pass it on to someone else? Damn. I think the best thing to do is just put in in the case and pretend I never played/heard it. At least that way I won't miss it when it's gone.
Here's a good question, why doesn't Ovation just make EVERY guitar sound this good? Forget all the new fangled stuff: Astabula BS bowls, VIP whatever, LXYZ, bowling ball holes ... just build them like they used to. Like this 1627. The only wood topped plastic back I've heard better than this in the past 35 years is the FD14. I'm serious! This makes my $2500. Custom Legend sound like crap and it would reduce any 1537 to kindling wood. Even the stacked V/T preamp is amazing!
Richard, richard, richard ... if I didn't have another one of these (slightly modified) on order for myself we would SERIOUSLY have to talk, my friend. Finders keepers, losers weepers. I don't know how many of these are still for sale out there, but believe me they all should be bought up by OFC members immediately.

In my opinion either the 2 knobber or the stacked tone/volume control is all most players need. |

Location: SoCal | The only thing I don't like about this guitar is the strange placement of the strap button. It's wwwaaayyy over from the neck, and for me, I needed an extra long strap. Well, there are times when only the best will do. Friday, a Moody Leather (no relation) extra long guitar strap arrived. Expensive, yes. But it looks and feels great. And with that guitar, it's the perfect length. And for anybody who wants to see what it looks like, go to http://www.moodyleather.com . Mines redwood with the curry suede backing. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | Vic, I agree. It shouldn't be possible. But damn it, you HAVE to hear this thing! I've owned three 1537's and they are wonderful guitars. But seriously, this reissue is a notch above (at least as heard from the players position). Don't confuse this guitar with the 2nd generation VT braced 1627 crap. Location: Copenhagen Denmark | Dave,I did not mean to spoil your fun,just meant that, comparing a LEGEND with a 1537,would be a little abstract,these have different design philosophies,my 1617 (1972) has more "overtones" than my 1537 (1983)I will not count my 1618 (1982)
being a 12 stringer, (but talk about "overtones")
I would call my 1537 for my Allrounder ,"Big Voiced" with an Ability to "start - stop" quickly(for lack of a better explanation )while I would consider my LEGEND`s to be "Beaming - ringing"
That`s all I meant,I hope that we`re still buddies ;)
