Location: Central Oregon | And then I had another GAS attack. It came all sudden like again. I had this overpowering need for a solid top, deep bowl, cutaway guitar.
I've been playing my 2002 as my 'main squeeze' for about three years now. I play them all, but I play that one the most. At first I played it plugged in most of the time, but gradually I found that I was playing it unplugged except for Thursday evenings when I play with two other geezers. The 2002 sounds great plugged in, but the fancy laminated top doesn't sound nearly as good as my old 1612 when it's unplugged. On the other hand it was lots easier to play. Especially up the neck a ways. So it occurred to me that I needed a solid top, deep bowl, cutaway guitar. Preferably with a lot of holes in it.
Problem now solved.
I just received a '97 778 Custom Elite from Tony Calman in the mail this afternoon. And it's a dandy! Just what I needed. Great five piece neck, deep bowl, lotsa holes with a cutaway.
I really planned to sell the 2002 when I bought it but I can't bring myself to part with it or any of the other ones I have. I *needed* a deep bowl Elite. I know I needed one cuz I didn't have one.
Almost three years between GAS attacks is pretty good isn't it?
I'm working on a theory-
"You don't have too many guitars unless you have one you just don't like for some reason." (Same as fishing poles, guns & Harleys.) |

Then I decided to redo the basement studio. I hated the bare walls. Then I discovered wall hangers, and signs, and neon, and . . . At least guitars are cheaper than motorcycles, although the gap is becoming increasingly smaller, and in one instance, non-existent. Good luck, Nils. I'm already in the G.A.S. hospice. |

Depends on your definition of "good". Some might say that's pretty bad.
I like your theory, though. I don't have any guitars I don't like and I like a bunch of guitars I don't have. |

:) I'll work on pix asap Mike. It's a purty one for sure! I'm pretty busy today & I have a toy airplane club meeting tonight. I have some pix that Tony sent me & I'll get some posted when I get a few minutes.
ONE caliber?? Goodness gagness Agnes! Impossible!! I have ten calibers now & that's just my pistols!
You're right Bill. I keep telling my wife that all my toys are appreciating & she can sell 'em all as soon as I kick off. Guitars, guns, Harleys, model airplane engines... hell, she'll be rich as soon as she can get rid of me :)
(edit) Almost forgot Mike, thanks but this one doesn't have a TRC. |

I've been meaning to ask them if they'd start a new search category called "Spouse died/pissed me off Sale".
It would be a schorcher!
Paul,
Would you mind terribly if I put you in my will to come console my Widow and sell off my stuff when I'm gone?
WHEN I'M GONE!
Any of the guitar parts you don't understand just send to Seesquare.
AND the camera... |

| Tony has some real nice stuff. You should check out his Adamas's he was going to let go not to long ago, he may still have a few.

Randy Yep, we already discussed 'em all. None of his Adamas guitars had a cutaway & I needed a deep bowl with a cutaway. As soon as I saw this Elite I wanted it. I bought my 2002 Collectors from Tony a few years ago.
Tony also sent along a copy of the "Unique Voices" DVD. Great stuff! I'm almost embarrassed to admit it, but I'd never seen/heard Al DiMeola play before. I am still blown away! I had no idea anyone could play that fast & still be able to have all the notes clear & distinct. Amazing. I really enjoyed all the interviews & other clips too but DiMeola is on a whole new level. I do wish they had included a song or two from Melissa Etheridge. |

You send it & I'll put it right on there & take another picture, I don't wanna be the guy with the nekkid lookin' guitar. Thanks ol' buddy :)
Mark: Yes they do. Or at least they did. This one is deeeep & sounds really great, plugged in or not. I don't know if they made 'em in a mid-depth or not but when Tony sent the pictures of this one I HAD to have it. It impressed the hell out of the other two guys in our Thursday night Geezer Guitar Group last night. It even sounds better than my 1612 & that's going some. Easier to play too, although not as easy as the 2002 Collectors. Except for the tuner (which works fine but the newer ones are easier) I like the old Optima better than the OP40's in my 2002 & 2003 Elite 12 string. The one extra tone slider is nice. I can really make the deep bowl growl if I want to. Bottom line: it sounds as good as it looks, maybe even better :) |
