But when the life a a pet is taken, comments and debate are OK !
Apparently, pets are more valuable than people. |

However, if you go there and make ludicrous arguments like the one stated above, they will eat you alive.
Somehow I doubt debating Iraq on an internet board aimed at Ovation guitar owners is going to save many lives. |

The idea is to keep the main topic of the site, Ovation Guitars, as exciting and as enthusiastic as possible. Preamp choices, rants about website updates, sticking GC TRC's on everything you own are all fair game. bring it to a high furver.
Let me add bad spelling to that.
If you want to argue politics or Socio-religious values please go enlist the appropriate venue.
The occasional snow story, Pet food warning, Llama's storm the White House story is a diversion and should be minimized.

Facts are facts, and you can't argue with facts.
Fact 1- The Iraq war is "off limits" on this site,(including American soldiers losing eyes, limbs, and their life)
Fact 2- Discussion of pet deaths is OK
fact 3- No one has submitted a logical or impressive reason why this is so.
Fact 4- The best submitted reason why I am wrong is that "people dont agree with me."
Fact 5- The facts can speak for themselves. Are you willing to step up to the plate and take a swing at facts ? |

I have elected representation in Washington DC debating this issue for me, I'm not going to waste the precious resorces of this board (which someone else is paying for) to debate this issue.

People come here because they are interested in Ovation guitars...(It's The Ovation Fan Club, 'member?)...in whatever their personal capacity.
To attempt hijack it for any personal issue is juvenile and narrowminded. No matter how important that issue may seem to an individual.
Do we Canucks (and Northern State citizens) bug everyone about the stupid shoot out rule in NHL hockey? No.
Do the old guys here whine about how our commie/socialist medical system will pay for our DRE prostate exams but not the PSA test? No.
Do we come and bitch about being left to clean up the mess in Afghanistan? No.
It doesn't belong here.
And yes, discussion of some pet issues (and Llamas) will take precendence over some that seem more urgent. I can do something about saving my pets life, as a Canadian (Brit/Aussie/Pole/Manx/Frank/etc) I can do nothing about the USA military situation.
This is our happy place, take your misery elsewhere.

The French have a Presidential Election coming up - does SFB have views on that he would like to share here?
Something for the Norwegians, the Danes, the Germans, the Australians, the Thai??????
The scary thing is guys like this get the same number of votes as people who can tell the difference between a guitar group and a politics board. |

Point of view depends on point of sit.
And you have members in all ages, and people who can speak the same language about ovations, may not be able to understand other persons thoughts or point of view because of age/ethnicity or nationality.
And every lenghty political discussion on internet ends with people calling each other "Fascist" or "Hitler" or "idiot". And for what?
And if you are interested in opinion of particular people, you can always ask them by pm.
I hope i haven't made many mistakes. I've had a bad day and i hope to get to bed in 40 minutes.

The war is not off limits. Discussion of the politics of the war is, because it serves no purpose here other than to cause division and bad feelings. As I said before (if you were paying attention) there are other boards specifically for that purpose. Good luck to you there, given the argumentative skills you've displayed thus far.

You have taken completely unrelated themes (war, tainted pet food) and tried to somehow tie them together in an attempt to make us feel guilty for not playing your little game.
The fact is, this board is named the "OVATION FAN CLUB", not the "MORALITY OF WAR DEBATE CLUB", or the "LET'S ARGUE ABOUT POLITICS UNTIL WE HATE EACH OTHER CLUB". Most of us happen to like (or at least tolerate) each other, and a political free-for-all would accomplish nothing.
So, in a nutshell, that's just the way it is. If you don't like the movie, get up and leave. |

With last change of governament, things had gone really baad way. Jurnalists are being disrespected and some ended up in jail.
There is only one truth - the truth that governament says and everything else is a false.
Basically.
You still can express your opinion. But you can't be sure if you wont end up in jail.

as a bulls fan, i used to read Chicago Tribune sports section daily. That really helped me to learn everyday english.

Mark had the right answer of sorts. Hawaii has an Interstate because everyone else got funding for one. And more importantly, to connect the Air and Sea Ports.
The Subsidizing of the Interstates is actually based on the need to transport the Military during extreme need. So that 10' road easement in front of your house could revert to federal Property during Marshall Law!
That's why we need to end all War!
Next issue please. |

i ain't sure if hawaii's "interstates" are part of the eisenhower interstate network that now wends its
tentacles all over the U.S.
'tis ironic how eisenhower warned against the "military industrial complex" and now the NWO has named its marshall law use interstate after him.
we ain't got any interstates on the big island...yet. no snakes, no interstates and very few consonants! |

Nice set of older "Made in W Germany" Schallers. The guitar was an "American Acoustech".

A couple of weeks ago, a friend of ours invited us over to help ourselves to whatever we wanted from her garage that she didn't want to take on her move to Fla.
Found two old type cases (one Bodoni and a Galliard). Said she bought 'em years ago when it was all the craze fill 'em with "curio's", put a piece of glass on top and make an end table out of 'em . . .
I laid the thing out in front of me and could ALMOST remember how to "run" the damn thing (aMAZEing the sh!t y'don't forget!).
Took 'em both.
Gonna hang one on the wall of the MusicRoom and start a collection of guitar slides . . . |

I miss the days of technical pen ink on the back of my left index finger, cuts from scalpel blades, french curves, paintbrushes, rubylith, illustration board, wax, rubber cement (mmmmm. rubber cement fumes), airbrush overspray, stat cameras and PMT's, on and on |

Is that for real? How is it that the island has no snakes. I thought it was a tropical region which would lend itself to snakes.
If I fell into the "fools" trap, then pat yourself on the back cause you had me going.
If true, please elaborate. |

From what I understand, the only one that has been introduced (accidentally) is the 'blind snake' which looks more like a worm and eats insects which are also not native. |

hawaii is the most remote land mass on earth. when the undersea volcanoes that formed hawaii finally broke through the ocean's surface, there were no life forms. the only way life forms could get here would be to drift from some other land mass across the ocean on an old log or something similar. birds from other areas were probably blown off course during a storm and ended up here, their droppings containing seeds they had eaten which sprouted. any other life forms had to be introduced over the centuries. captain cook is noted in history for "discovering" the "sandwich isles" but his ships are known to have brought cockroaches, rats, mice, mosquitoes, centipedes and spiders. his men brought venereal disease and measles which decimated the hawaiian population.
snakes were never introduced to the islands. if you wanna see a snake here, ya gotta go to the zoo. every once in a while someone will find a boa or python or some other pet snake that was brought in illegaly. who ever had it feared getting caught so they let it go or the snake escaped. there is a minimum $10,000 fine if someone is caught bringing a snake in or keeping one. hawaii fears that what happened in guam will happen here. it is rare to see a bird in guam. the brown tree snake, which is non-poisonous, has eradicated the bird population in guam. sometimes brown tree snakes will stowaway on planes from guam. the planes that land from there are under close supervision and any snakes found are destroyed. hawaii is too far from any other land for snakes that can swim to make it here. i recall back in the early 70's the coast guard spotted a major swarm of snakes swimming towards hawaii probably from japan area. they were about 1500 miles out. it seems the navy got involved and actually blew them up with some depth charges.
we ain't got skunks, squirrels, or armadilloes either.
we do have plenty wild pig, a few deer, some feral goats, some feral donkeys, lotsa wild chickens. the mongoose was introduced to some of the islands here many decades ago to help rid the rodent. you can go to kaua'i and see wild chickens all over the place cuz mongoose aren't there. seems the mongoose are more effective at chicken exterminating than at rat patrolling. we've got mongoose here on big island and not many wild chickens.
hawaii is on the top of the list for having the world's most threatened and close to extinction species of birds and plants. the government is very careful of protecting the endangered species which is why visitors here have to complete a detailed disclosure list on the plane before disembarking. |

According to WikiPedia;
The most remote island is Bouvet Island, an uninhabited and small Norwegian island in the South Atlantic Ocean. It lies at coordinates 54°26?S 3°24?E. The nearest land is the uninhabited Queen Maud Land, Antarctica, over 1600 km away to the south. The nearest inhabited land are Tristan da Cunha, 2260 km away and South Africa, 2580 km away.
The most remote archipelago is the British Tristan da Cunha Islands in the South Atlantic Ocean, 2816 km (1750 miles) from South Africa and 3360 km (2088 miles) from South America. This is also the most remote inhabited archipelago.
The most remote, major inhabited city is either Honolulu, Hawaii or Perth in western Australia, depending upon one's definition of "remote" and "major." There are no settlements within 3800 km of Honolulu or within 2200 km of Perth larger than the 30,000 to 50,000 population range (Hilo, Hawaii and Geraldton and Kalgoorlie, Australia.
If it's on the internet, it must be true! ;)
This subject sparked my interest - I always thought it was Easter Island, but the above 2 references keep coming up with the various searches I've been doing. No mention of Hawaii except for Lanaki and JeffW. |

Courtesey of Wikipedia again...
Saint Helena is an island of volcanic origin and a British overseas territory in the South Atlantic Ocean. The territory consists of the island of Saint Helena, as well as the dependencies of Ascension Island and Tristan da Cunha. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Helena
Ozwatto, Tassie doesn't get a mention, but Perth does. |

-Cogswell and Schiøtz, 1996
"Hawai`i is the most geographically isolated archipelago in the world, and originally had a tremendous diversity of microclimates, life forms, and natural renewable energy sources. Despite its natural wealth, Hawai`i now imports 50-75% of its own foodstuffs, and over 75% of its energy (Department of Geography, U. Hawai`i, 1983: 159). Ecological degradation over the last century, caused by development and ignorance, has caused many species of life to become extinct, and still threatens many more. The transformation of the Islands from a series of rich, dynamic and interconnected ecosystems and cultural systems to its present state is one of many factors that has intensified a movement toward reclaiming Hawaiian sovereignty." |

Location: Sunshine State, Australia | I think this thread has to be one of the most diverse OFC thread hijacks in the history of the OFC.
Someone starts with the Iraq war and dead pets. :(
For some weird, unexplainable reason, someone responds with a reference to Ovation guitars. Unnecessary and out of order!
Here's a potted summary of where the thread went from there;
bad spelling
snow
pet food
llamas
Seattle
guns
bears with WOMD
bad smells
Yogi bear
work (and that's the first page done)
anna nicole's baby
voting
the colour of the sky
the perfect storm
Christmas
Gilligan's alter ego
the olympics and a photo of an Ovation
vipers with wood bits
snakes (that's page 2)
Praying
the OFC calendar
Omaha
Canadians and prostrate exams
Llamas again and back to the original post. (Fillhixx - bad boy!)
Afghanistan
the Hawaiian Interstate
The 'internationalness' of the OFC
back on thread (boring) :o
WWIII
the difference between Poland and the USA
freedom of speech
lawyers
facts (who needs em?) which eloquently concludes page 3. Only 6 to go (so far)
Wabbit's DVD
Polish Chicago Bulls fans
Polish prisons
brown packages and those magazines
bomb squads
Back to the DVD again
a recently deceased fish and reference to an obscure plastic backed USA made guitar (Don't know how THAT fits in this forum)
mainland tourists
saluting over the toilet
the buddhist snowpea growers association
Pizza (great subject to finish page 4 with, eh?)
Beer (Yay!) :D
a round tuit
early retirement
jumbo shrimps and the Hawaiian Interstate
a feeble reference to the original thread :o
a picture of a dog and a piece of guitar
gibson guitars and eBay
at the end of page 5, our old mate, Jason, offers to help out yet another OFCer with his extensive spare parts stock. (Ain't this a great place?) :D
Now we're on page 6 and the posts are referring more and more to earlier posts, and not too many new topics. And I'm tiring...
only 4 pages to go. What happened to the original topic? Who cares?
Schallers, Grovers and headstocks - both attached and dismembered
Print shops - 'Then and Now'!
Bodoni and Galliard, whatever THEY are??
back to snakes in Hawaii - no mention of the Interstate.
the power of stupid people
hawaiian blind snakes
Canadians, Brits, Aussies, Poles, Manx's, Franks, etc.
The world's remotest land mass (aha, we're back to 'conflict') ;)
Guam brown tree snakes
skunks, squirrels, armadillos, wild pig, deer, feral goats, feral donkeys, wild chickens and mongeese (sp?)
digestive tracts
Woody hitting 8K and Cliff approaching 10K
the taste of chicken compared to mongoose
the remotest landmass debate is hotting up - Pitcairn, St Helena, Hawaii, Easter Island are all in the running.
a Hawaiian Elmer Fudd impersonation and we hit the (current) last page.
farting and blowing up neighborhoods
the efficiency of using ONE finger in the US, but we need to use 2 in Britain and Australia. (twice as offensive?)
The debate about remote landmass has nearly run its course as NOBODY is brave enough to take on Cliff. (JeffW backs down, but Lanaki's probably sleeping.)
Scandinavian excrement and digital sprockets.
And we come to the current end of the thread with another complaint about not being able to delete our own threads and unpaid debts.
Have I missed anything... and are there any subjects that we HAVEN'T covered?
Don'tcha love it here?
[EDIT] Oh, b****r it! I've just started the 10th page. |

Isolated in the mid Pacific, the Hawaiian Islands are the most remote major island group on earth. I think the key is in the word 'major'.

~mahalo for the reader's digest version of this thread. i had a challenge keeping my breakfast down while reading it from laughing so hard.
not to belabor this issue or whip a dead horse but:
hawaii's "islands" are simply the tops of the undersea volcanic mountain range that form them.
yes the islands are close to each other, but as an "entity", the whole place is the furthest away from any other land mass. |

To me, if it has a McDonalds, it's not remote in any sense of any definition. Now if it's intended to really mean isolated by water, than that is different. If it really means isolated from travel, than that is different. If you can go to an airport, buy a ticket and be there in 24 hours (lets not get picky about timezones), it is neither isolated nor remote. |
