Location: New South Wales, Australia | G'day all. Have just joined my first garage band and it's a real sweaty garage. By the time we're finished the sweat is literally dripping from the top of my 1860 not to mention my forehead.
I usually give my guitar a polish whenever I put new strings on but I'm wondering if I should be doing it more frequently now. I just give it a bit of a wipe over when I'm finished and put it back in the case.
I'm also very close to the coast. The beach is just across the road so we get a fair bit of salt in the air.
Is my case enough to protect it or is there something else I should be using.
I've been using Dr Stringfellows Lem-Oil to polish the guitar and I've had the bottle for a few years now as I only need a bit at a time. Does this stuff have an expiry date or is it OK to use it until it's all gone? |

You ain't gonna drink it, are you?
The only concern that I might have is how much salt is in the air and your sweat...
What I'm saying is don't wipe the wood down with a really dry hard cloth, cuz the salt may scratch the finish. Otherwise, I guess it's humid enough... |

When in doubt, replay Loiue Loiue . I'm sure it's available in a good sloppy version on youtube somewhere. |

Location: Australia | lemon oil is a bit of an overkill, I wouldn't use it unless my guitar was really grotty
just use normal guitar polish or clean the top with a soft damp cloth rung out then dry it off, works fine |

Location: ranson, wva | on my wood top guitars i use meguires goldclass a few times a year, when it gets sweat or any other crud on it i just wipe with a damp cloth, let it dry then buff the shine back with a soft cloth.it puts a pretty good protective coat on the top and cleans up easy too....
save the lemon oil for the fingerboard and bridge. jason |

Location: New South Wales, Australia | Thanks to richardd and Jason for your advice. The guy in the music shop told me the lem-oil was what I needed. Being uneducated in these matters I went ahead and bought it. I think he was a work experience kid.
I'm glad to be able to come here and get some advice from people who know. |

I'm still on a lowly dial up system here so I've just finished watching that "groovy" clip. Is it true that the bass player went on to become the Canadian P.M. |

His son Ben's the 'famous' one now. One of those TV hosts who keeps popping up and no one knows quite why they're famous....... |
