Location: Valparaiso, FL | My 6868 with the OP24+ has electrical gremlins. Since I'm about to spend $$, I wondered if I couldn't go to present day electronics - OP30 or better. I see them pop up on the bay.
My fear isn't cutting the bowl, my fear is the newer one will be too small to replace the old one. Any info??? |

Location: SoCal | You can't retro fit one of the new preamps on a bowl that had a rectangular preamp without putting a whole new bowl on the guitar. |

Location: closely held secret | Definitely an Optima. I'm considering that for my '87 as well. It's an excellent preamp, I have it on my CL12 and 1581 and love the sound. |

Location: Massachusetts | I always liked the Op24+. Tons of volume..way more than the Pro and the mid cut and shape switch worked well.
Sure a tuner and a notch filter would be great. That's the Optima right? Yet the CL's and even Adamas with the Optima sounded worse than the + to my ears. Must be my ears. |

| so the. optima, op24, op24+, opx etc...the rectangular preamps are basically interchangeable for usa ovations?
I have a spare OP24+ I was thinking about swapping with an op24 on a shallow bowl

Location: closely held secret | Glenn, they're not exactly 'interchangeable' in that the Optima is a little bigger that the 24. Going from a 24 to an Optima would require some routing.
Trying to go from one of the rectangular pre's to one of the oval ones you would be left with gaps where the corners were. |

Location: SoCal | Any of the new preamps can be substituted for one another. But it's not as simple as just pulling one out and plugging another in. They often require different cans and plugs. But the factory can do that. |

Location: closely held secret | XLR requires a factory supplied board which contains both the XLR and 1/4" jacks. This plugs into the output jack on the preamp. |

About the two knobs, yes, I miss my Adamas II an awful lot sometimes. Maybe after the kids leave home, or when my wife turns her back. :) Until then, the 6868 will do. |
