Just assume it's really nice, sort of rare, and sound like a dream. |

C) Bring your Wife with you and visit FL more often. Almost like visitation.
D) Figure out what makes this thing tick and sink a whole bunch of OPM into a company that makes them. Don't build them overseas cause then you'd have to call them Foriegn Nationals or Innerd Nationals.
E) Sell everything you have and have just this one guitar. |

I went with the "Don't buy it" button. But it was close, buddy.
It would be easy to go with the "Life's to short" defense but what swung me was the "really can't afford it" statement.
And although I only know you as well as this board and a couple wild weekends allow, my guess is that your marriage is stronger than any one guitar.
And besides....It's not healthy if you can't learn to say "no" to yourself once in a while.
But please... when this poll has done it's job, let us know what tempted you. |

I went with No, I'm afraid Dave. Purely because, if you have to ask then you're looking to be persuaded. Rather than simply "I'm SO buying that guitar".
Hope all you cats are kittens are having a great weekend.

I'm in the buy it camp. I believe it's an opportunity for you.
You'll get a guitar that you will cherish, and you can pass along some guitars which you don't play that much to people who, for them, will enjoy and cherish. In some sense we are just custodians of the guitars we own.
Guitars were meant to played after all. Thin your collection.
Do it and dont' look back! |

That being said, I seem to remember at least 2 or 3 "I've just gotta have it" guitars that you bought, only to turn around and sell at a later date.
Spontaneous impulses are great (I know I've paid for my share) but if you need this kind of persuasion, perhaps you ought to think rationally about it for a while, and you'll see you really don't need it and really can't afford it.
After which (of course) you'll buy it anyway. |

Ask Cliff if he remembers what happened to his favorite guitar when his wife thought (knew) he loved it more than her..... :p :D :p :D
Also, I wouldn't necessarily take advice from a bunch of middle-aged men you met on the internet. We are often delusional about the state of our own relationships and grossly un-qualified to give advice about anyone else's. |

| Forgive me - I was thinking maybe his wife would be unhappy if he bought the guitar (which was the point of his question). It didn't occur to me that she might be happy to have an excuse to dump him. I bow to your greater professional knowledge of this stuff. I have enough trouble understanding the woman I've been with for almost 31 years (26 married) - I really shouldn't try and second guess Mrs Tuppy. I'm glad I didn't vote. |

Yes that's the one. Any other takers if he says no? If not it's going off to Cotten Music in Nashville, they have a Natural one there now. About the same price for this one, the s/b is much rarer.

I suspect his wife has gotten used to his guitar buying by now.

If she knew what you were when she married you, she can be helped to understand.
Also, if it's something that will only increase in value, then you are planning for retirement. If you get old and can't afford to eat, the choice to sell will become easy and you can decide which you love the least. Approach from an investment standpoint and maybe she'll be alright with it.
I would buy it, but I'm not married, so as I said, I can't vote. |

Okay, then as long as you can eat and live indoors in a place where you can play out loud and get away with it, and your wife has all the clothes and cosmetic surgery she needs to be happy, then go for it. But if mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy. If your guitars are prettier than a wife who wants to be more than she is getting to be, then you owe it to yourself to make mama happy, so you can be happy. If you only sold one to do something for her, she would probably make you a happier man. My first instinct is BUY IT. The truth is: If you prioritize anything over your woman, your life is gonna suck way more than if you had way less gear. You have to decide what is more important, the guitars or your wife. That is exactly the way she is going to see it unless you convince her of the investment and retirement thing. One guy was right, if you buy it and you get a divorce, you lose half your collection anyway. Many women would take them from you and send you a video of them all getting run over by a train. Buy her a big, fat diamond instead and you will have a happy life. Your choice. |

They made around 250-300 but only 8 sunbursts. Since they went to cnc or around s/n 4000ish they have made this a part of the line but the S-Ks say they ain't as good as the old ones.
There's a guy named David Dugan who has a whole web site devoted to this model. I'll post it if I can find it. It's a beautiful guitar, it's just that I'll play the Merrill instead and Dave needs another guitar anyway. |

You don't ask the price of what's in HER closet.
Clothing does not appreciate in value so anyone with half a brain would rather play a great guitar naked than spend a mint on a dress to wear nearly never. Still, you need to make a good show to keep the peace. |
