Jason,

I feel sick, I can't imagine how you feel.
I would certainly investigate what your options are with insurance, either yours or your neighbors.

If we don't have insurance for stuff like this, why bother with it?
The only problem is, what happens to your premiums after?

I hope everything works out in the end.

I'd bet the neighbor's homeowners' insurance would cover it. It usually covers stuff like your kids hitting a ball through a window. I don't see much difference.

It all depends on your relationship with your neighbour, if their alright people it shouldn't be a problem, if their dicks, it could be.

we own...they rent....thats gonna be the deciding factor.....

the hardst one to repair is gonna be the steel body resonator...ive never seen a neck attached the way that one was. im probly gonna have to use a bold on neck and screw the neck stick to the neckblock and tail block.....ive worked on woodbody reso's before but never a steel body..so its gonna be a interesting project...jason

basicaly the ones that took the brunt of it were not that important...ive had the matrix for as long as i can rember and its shot...ill probly scrap it...the artist is a easy fix.....i was extreamly pissed when i came in and seen the mess but then i gathered my self and assessed the sititaion and its not as bad as it looks..i hated the neck on the reso..who the hell would put a thin neck on one of these?? its smaller than 1 11/16...im going to the lumber yard tomorow and get a 16ft red oak plank to screw the hangers to then screw the plank to every stud it falls on.....im verry luck that my adamas was up stairs and my folklore wasnt hurt....jason

ps..oz,id like to thro the ball out in rt.40 during the 5pm rush hour..lol

Jason amazingly generous of you to write it off and move on. But make sure those neighbor kids learn from this. I'm sure if you told their parents that they damaged a thousand dollars worth of guitars, but you'll accept 500 dollars worth of sweat equity in return they'd be all over that. Make those guys mow your lawn for the rest of the year or something!

First, I am so sorry for your loss.
Now, down to business.
The financial liability belongs to the owner of the property.
Your insurance will cover it.
However, you need to know that a landlord is entirely responsible for the actions of his/her renters.
That is why they give special insurance coverage to landlords.
It is also why it's easy for you to recover your loss. Your insurance company will certainly go after the landlord's insurance company.
You will have a larger guitar collection than you did before if you stay calmly angry and give your insurance company PICTURES.
Good luck, man.
I would love to throttle the blokes who robbed my studio.
You are a nicer person than I.
Wishing you well,
Another Boney Gumbo

we had no idea he had all those automatic weapons...all we heard was the sound of gunfire and someone screaming
"I AM Johnny Cash!!!"

sorry to hear about the damage... but you do seem to be taking it like a postman.

The Postal Workers I've been around lately are really nice people as well. I vote we change that phrase to something like "going Media" or "gone Contractor". Them I got issues with!

Jason, you done well. The first few posts are allowed to vent, much like the "hit-his-thumb-with-the-hammer-first-30 seconds-don't-listen" rule.

Let your insurance know, talk with your neighbors, keep the guns locked up.

Buy a G7?

Borrow an Adamas I Baritone?

Invest in cheap Paneling?

Oh, oh, I get it now. Locate the studs and anchor a connecting member, such as a Mahogany 3/4" x 8" and then attach the String Swings or other brand of instrument hanger.

What I did was to locate the studs and offset the height to allow placement a little tighter.

Wow, four of those are hanging in someone else's wall now!

"Buy a G7?"
- a gift from Master Templeman.

"Borrow an Adamas I Baritone?"
- a Christmas Present from a Good Friend.

"Invest in cheap Paneling?"
- Better HERE than to have you defacing Classic Guitars with it.

"Oh, oh, I get it now. Locate the studs and anchor a connecting member, such as a Mahogany 3/4" x 8" and then attach the String Swings or other brand of instrument hanger."
- Red Oak and "OffTheWall".

Decaf and a Back Rub for you Cliff! Didya wake up on the wrong side of the US?

OK, I'm just jealous about the Baritone.

Also, let me toss in a story that relates in some ways.

I am in a 1965 split level with everything from fully soldered copper piping (comes in and goes-outs) to the aluminum wiring. Floor joists made of 2"x14" clear and under insulated walls. about 2-3 remodels ago someone re-did the Kitchen floor, trapping the Dishwasher in place since it didn't have the adjustable legs. Only way to pull it out would be destructively.

Got about 15 years out of the water hose that supplies the DW. My PUD thinks its OK to supply the water at a n average of 120 psi as well. My Wife and I are out to dinner when my Daughter calls in a panic when she came home to water running down the stairs, through the walls and light fixtures, etc.

About four months of Contractors wandering through my house and a couple of thousand dollars out of pocket later, we had all new floors and a couple of complete new rooms. Got to remove the panelling in the Master Suite because it is actually more expensive to replace than drywall!

In the process I got to remove/add/upgrade the insulation and electrical in a couple of rooms. Had a $1000 deductible and a couple of thousand in timely upgrades. Ended up with a much nicer home guilt free. BTW - I was kidding about using Jerome's collection for insurance purposes.

I like the Hercules stands, but I'm not crazy about their hangers. I had put one up in our old apartment, and there was just too much "slop" in it for me to be comfortable with it . . .

I've got 5 OffTheWall's on a 10' 1x8 ReadOak board that's screwed into EVERY wall stud with a 5" brass wood screw. The hangers are attached by brass screws that screw into nuts that are countersunk into the backside of the board.
We weren't positive if we'd be "staying" at this place, so this allowed maximum stability with minimum holes in the (albeit cheaply paneled) walls (Jeanette was happy about that). I also like the OffTheWall's because the hangers "keyhole" into the cast iron base and can be changed-out to accomodate 6 or 12-string, or (Bill's insanely) WideNecks.
I hung my full weight on this before I put a guitar on it.
The brass "buttons" protruding out are female StrapLocks for hanging guitar straps.
The other side of the wall is the back wall of my garage, which has a home-built, heavy wooden workbench anchored to it's full length.
I could probably total my car against this, and the most guitar damage that would result would be a dissonant chord.

Those kids must have been whaling against the wall. I'd be angry. At the least, I'd talk with thier landlord. As for compensation, it depends on your relationship with the neighbors. Up to you, I take no postion as to what to do ... but you would be justified to ask for them to pay for the damages. People shouldn't pound your house with balls.

Well, when the threw the ball and heard the cool noise it made a split second later, they probably did it again to see if they could get the noise again. Which they did succeed at, a couple more times. Then inexplicably, it stopped. :p :D :p :D

Sorry to hear of your misfortune Jason. Also glad the Adamas wasn't damaged.

Hopefully, being the weasels they sometimes are, the insurance company doesn't tell you that your guitars should have been on stands or in their cases.

Keep us posted on this one.

i live is a 1000sqft townhouse 3 bed room, not much room when you have 15 guitars of varrious makes and models. most are in the cases in the varrious closets around the house...but i followed cliffords instructions and now the only way my hangers will fall off the wall is if some one comes in with a crowbar and prys that 16ft redoak plank off the wall thats got 2 3in screws in every stud...with the hurcules hangers.....just a minor stone in the road....jason
