Location: Boston, MA | Hi!
I'm new here. I'm afraid I don't have any shiny pics to share with you, because I don't yet have an Ovation -- I'm interested, though, which is why I'm here.
I play left-handed (the curse of the guitar purchaser..), and was wondering if anyone knows of sources for used left-handed Ovations with the multi-hole epaulet (in the $400-$800 range, say)? I know I can custom order some models from Ovation, but I'd rather not wait the three months it'll take for that. I've seen the LCS247 occasionally available, but it's a big gamble to buy a model of a guitar sight-unseen.
Thanks for reading! I envy you all your guitars. :) |

Location: Pennsylvania | yep, they're very few and far between. Ebay and on rare occasion craig's list will have left handed ovations. I found my 1537 on ebay. The celebrity is quite common on ebay.
This one is currently on the bay. (i'm not the seller btw)

Location: Boston, MA | Thanks, Depa07! Hadn't seen that one.
I think I'm deciding between the (L)CS247 and 778, then -- would anyone be able to take a stab at describing the differences between them? There's an OP-30 in the 247 and an OP-40 in the 778, so that's one difference, although it doesn't bother me so much because I mainly play unplugged. I wonder if the unplugged sound would be far superior with the 778..
Thanks again for the help! |

Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | The LCS247 is a Celebrity... The L778 is USA-made.
The LCS247 has an OP30... The L778 has an OP40 with a notch filter.
The LCS247 has a laminate top... The L778 has a Solid Sitka Spruce top.
The LCS247 will cost less... The L778 will cost more. |

I've also been looking at special-ordering a new lefty 1778-TX, but I just noticed that the OP-PRO preamp (which it would normally come with) is only available on right-handed models. Does anyone happen to know why that is? |

Location: Sydney, Australia | It's to do with the shape of the container the preamp comes in - it only fits in one position on the guitar. For example, you couldn't take a right handed guitar and put the preamp on the bottom. If you hunt for threads where people have replaced a non-kidney shaped preamp, or put a kidney shaped preamp in an acoustic only guitar, you'll see what they had to do to find "that" spot - basically creating a mold. |

Location: Boston, MA | Thanks, makes sense. I guess that suggests they have left-handed containers for the OP-30 and OP-40, or that those preamps are ambidextrous. :) |

Location: Boston, MA | So, I eventually decided to put in a special order for a lefty 1778-TX, at which point I found out that that model can't be ordered left-handed. :(
Could anyone suggest a guitar similar to the Elite T series, either by Ovation or someone else? I don't think you can get anything similar from Ovation without going all the way up to Adamas (and I'd like to stay under $1000), but I might be wrong.. |

Location: Boston, MA | Oh! Thank you! I didn't realize that the Elite T had been previously USA-made.
I see one for $1000 from southpawguitars -- it's obviously much more than the current $600 new price (for the non-USA made version), does anyone know whether that sounds reasonable? |
