Location: Australia | I'm being quoted over $450USD to ship an O to Australia (UPS) !
I've had a number of guitars shipped over the years but this is really expensive. I thought I might organise shipping from this end.
Anyone know a company with better rates ? |

Not sure that helps -- where are you shipping from and to?

Location: big island | i believe the us post office will be a much better rate and full insurance is an option.

Location: Sunshine State, Australia | An Ovation case exceeds the USPS limits to Australia. Paul Blanchard seems to think that they've relaxed this rule, but I'm not convinced. The problem is at this end, as Australia Post don't think that they are a 'shipping company'.
Both my Ovations had to be shipped at great expense via UPS, but guess who delivered them to my door. Yup. Australia Post.
If you CAN find a US Post Office that doesn't enforce the limit, you've got a good chance of getting it through.
If the guitar is coming FROM a business and being sent TO a business address, you may be able to use Bax Global. They won't deal with private addresses. Hopefully, Paul can fill you in if he chimes in to this thread. It was Paul that told me about Bax. |

Location: NJ | last couple of guitars I shipped to austrailia was via GEM and cost was around $125 BUT they did not pull out the book and measure the package. I have no clue if I am just lucky or the rules have been relaxed. |

| When I thought I was going to be sending the ute back to the States I checked with the Royal Mail and they wouldn't take it because they said it was too big for USPS. I told them that they had delivered it in the first place and that they had received it from the USPS and I had all the documentation to prove it. No dice. I asked what would happen if I just filled the form in wrong and knocked off a couple inches. You'd be taking a chance is all they would say. But USPS have definitely shipped 3 Ovations to me from America. |

Location: boulder | I can't believe it. The Ovation case really is 46" long-which is the cutoff for uspo global express. I think I have been lucky so far as well, clerks usually only make sure of 108" cubed regulation. Technically, the regulation states you are suppossed to round down to the nearest inch, but...
You also could angle the case just a little to make it fit under the 46" limit, but I usually like to pad the bottom of box really well and the top as well.
I just posted in two threads about shipping and now find that the black ovation cases are at legal limit and brown cases (which is what I have sent overseas) are only 43". Guess I will have to go amend those... |

Location: boulder | I think I should have stood in bed...I just measured the case that came with my adamas 6581 (which I am selling on fleabay), It is 44" about. The guitar is from 1998 and I assume the case is also. The other ovation case I measured was for a new case for my adamas 2080 12 string.
Somewhere along the way, the Ovation cases got bigger. (Maybe better, but bigger for sure).
I wonder if the company gave any thought about whether the newer sized cases would exceed postal regulations (at least international).
Maybe the guitar to austalia could be shipped in an older (smaller) case? peace mike |
