Just a FYI,

all postal rates will be going up in May. about 13% for international shipments and I think the same for domestic rates. (stamps up .002)

And as I learned this week-ALL global express international boxes MUST BE NO LONGER THEN 46". Ovation boxes just make it, Martin boxes need to be shortened. DOH.

while I am it. to ship guitars overseas and get tracking and insurance-global express is your only option from Post office. requiremnts are , box less then 108" cubed, length (longest side) no more then 46". Approximately $95 to ship a martin to england or a carvin electric to Hong hong PLUS insurance of $1.05 for every $100 on insurance needed.
Lastly Paul Temp is spot on about declared values. Declaring for less saves Value added tax, but if something goes wrong-is it worth it? Of course a local shipper here in Boulder, said "good luck collecting insurance" US post office will flip it to other countries PO, and the other countries PO will say it is US post office responsibility. Never had this problem yet.

Just as a comparison too...martin 000-28 to Uk with insurance about $120. Fed ex (who ships USPO boxes as well) $325. UPS $370--So I am not complaining about the rate hikes-I actually love my post office-and by now they know me too-(just don't think they love me).
hope it helps peace mike

more fyi, a black ovation case(new) is 46", a brown older case is about 44". I have sent at least two guitars overseas that were in the black cases, I think they were longer then allowed, but only the cubed limit was checked, not the length limit.

still yet another update-yes, a rare slow day here...

I think I should have stood in bed...I just measured the case that came with my adamas 6581 (which I am selling on fleabay), It is 44" about. The guitar is from 1998 and I assume the case is also. The other ovation case I measured was for a new case for my adamas 2080 12 string.
Somewhere along the way, the Ovation cases got bigger. (Maybe better, but bigger for sure).
I wonder if the company gave any thought about whether the newer sized cases would exceed postal regulations (at least international).

So maybe my other ovation cases were smaller, is my point. older brown case and older black cases are about 44". newer ovation case-46"..

It might just be me. again hope this babble helps...peace mike
