Location: Madison, WI | I have a shallow body Ovation, and it has it's hardshell case. I've always wondered, why is the case at least twice as thick as it needs to be to hold the guitar? It seems like there's at least $" of space between the bottom of the bowl and the bottom of the case. If I could make the case shallow it would benefit me greatly, or if I could find a way to use the extra space to store things?
Does anyone know what I am talking about, am I making any sense? |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | Multiple unit platform production. It is more cost-effective to produce one case with the same exterior dimensions, then add interior foam to fit different guitar bowl depths. Pretty standard product engineering strategy. |

Location: Madison, WI | Ok, that's more or less what I figured. How can I make better better use of the space in my case? I would like to be able to, for example, store my guitar stand mentioned in the other thread in the empty space :)
Or, do they make shallower cases? |

Location: Capital District, NY, USA Minor Outlying Islands | Unless you've got one of those fender rectangle style cases, most people carry their stand in their gear gigbag or in a separate sack.
I use a backaxe to carry my guitar, and the gear goes into a gear gigbag. If it can't be strapped to my bike, or to my back, I'm not taking it.
I undertand what your talking about, it's a lot easier to lug around things in small packages. You might want to keep the case for storage purposes at home, and get a tribal guitar gigbag where you can put your stand, cords, charts etc in the outside pouch. That way you kill two birds with one stone if you don't carry too much.
Personally, I just use the stands available at the gig, or leave it in the case. I guess I'm old now, cause I believe in lugging around less and less stuff. In 20 years your back will thank you. |

Location: New South Wales, Australia | G'day Dan. I've got a shallow bowl 1860 which fits very snugly in the hardshell case that came with the guitar when I bought it. There's no way I could even think about putting a guitar stand of any description in there.
I'm not sure if the cases have individual model numbers but someone here will know I'm sure.

They really do need to make one that will hold other stuff, more than that little pocket. Extra strings, tuner, starp, capo, music, slide; that would be nice if it all fit in there. I need a soft sided briefcase to carry all that now, or just put the guitar in a gig bag and let it all fit around the sides.
The hardshell case is good for shipping and airlines, to and from the gig is a different need.
Anybody listening? |

Location: ranson,wva | ive got a few of the tkl gig bags. they got tons of room in them. maybe that would be a option. im not shure where i got mine. i acumulated them with the mass of ovations ive bought and sold in the past year..lol ive got a few thati have no use for. i can part with one if you wanna give it a try......jason |

Location: NJ | Templeman came to my house one year with a guitar in one of these cases that he brought as carry-on.
In the pockets, I was absolutely aMAZED at the amount of CD's, DVD's, strings, tuners, hand percussion, comic books, and sundry other items he was able to pull out of the accessory pockets!
It's a veritable "ClownCar" of gig bags . . . |

Most of my bags are chosen around going on the plane. |
