| I'm trying to add some "electric" effects to my Custom Legend C779 LX, you know, like some wah-wah and that funky 70's sound. The folks at Digitech assure me that their modeling guitar processors will work with the the Ovations: Anybody have any knowledge, info or input on this issue? Please try to speak plain English, 'cause I have never played or experimented with electric guitars and have very little understanding of what the heck phase, chorus, delay etc. means or sounds like.
Oh, yes, I plan on playing through the sound system, as opposed to through an amplifier.

| I've used a digitech rp350 and 450 on both my Ovations and sb electrics... presets are pretty cheesy... but you can tweak and adjust and store your own..
they work alright.

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | I've used an RP100 and found some of the effects, but not all, to be quite satisfactory for certain songs where I was looking for a specific sound. The current prices on the RP80 are very reasonable. |

Location: closely held secret | The presets on the Digitech stuff (I have an RPx400) is very much aimed at the metal crowd. Yes, as Glenn said, you can tweak them to make them usable with acoustics, but they're really designed for use with electrics. |

Location: Scotland | Yes, the Danelectro Swami pedal. You'll need to find one on ebay because it was discontinued pretty damn quick. If ever there was a pedal that, to quote Spinal Tap "filled a much needed void" the Swami was it. Here's a link to an old MF listing

Location: Capital District, NY, USA Minor Outlying Islands | The only way to know about this multi effects stuff is to try it. I've seen them less than 70 at musicians friend, so you can probably get one on ebay for 25 plus shipping. If it don't float your boat resell it and consider any lost money a rental fee.
I've used zoom units, korg, pod 2.0, pod xt and yamaha's magic acoustic stomp. I can't say any of them were the bomb when it came to acoustics. Never tried any of the RP series though.
Also, whether the RP can recreate a funky 70's sound, I don't know, but a multi effects unit is as good place to start as any.
I think what you might be talking about is phase shifting and flanging. Digitech's website has some sound bites to get you started.
Personally, for acoustics, I use an alesis multi-mix and run it into the PA. Very happy with it and have no desire to change.
The RP80 can be had cheaply, just go for it and explore. |
