I would agree on the top 11.
Most of the others make sense.

And this gives me an excuse to mention my most dis-liked band ever.
I hate #35.. Guns-N-Roses. Especially Axel.

As much as I love these lists (they make great conversation pieces, QED) this one has got to take the cake for presumptiousness. "Songs that changed the world"? Really? The world is a different place because of a Britney Spears song?

Maybe their world, but not mine.

It doesn't necessarily say "change for the BETTER" . . .

Some of these songs are meaningless to me. Now, add some Ventures tunes and I'm in!

Changed the world? Exactly how would the world as we know it be one iota different if any of these songs had never existed?

Now, if Al Gore had never invented the internet? THAT would could have altered the course of history and the world as we know it...

Even if you take this list seriously, I have a hard time understanding what is so exceptional about some of the entries. "Fell In Love With a Girl" for example. Big deal. I don't understand what could possibly be considered noteworthy about it.

I must be living in a different world. Where the hell is Rock Around The Clock? Great Balls Of Fire? And as much as I dislike it, Stayin' Alive? No Johnny Cash? How about I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry by Hank? I would also think We Are The World would have to be way up there given it's impact.

Maybe this is why my suscription lapsed ...

BTW Jeff, I like your #41.

If Al Gore hadn't invented the internet, none of us would have met. And that's a bad thing.

If Julie Brown had never written and recorded "Earth Girls Are Easy", they never would have made the movie, and I wouldn't know. and that's a bad thing...

Interesting that I was just thinking of Al Gore this morning. If he hadn't invented the internet, we wouldn't all be on these computers all day, there would be a lot less heat generated by the computers and we wouldn't have global warming. I bet he planned the whole thing so he'd have something to do after he won the election.

After looking at the list, I guess reading the article may be helpful but I'm guessing it's not the tunes themselves, but what happened around them. They also didn't say "improved" the world or any indication of the affect other than change. Although most of the instances were before my time of paying attention to such things, I do see several that affected or caused censorship, or inspired political conversation etc... They also don't indicate "great" change, just change. Now it can be argued we all affect the world in some way, but I'd guess John Lennon (and Yogo) doing thier sleep-in affected more people than me mowing my lawn.

Another stunning piece of journalism from Rolling Stone. This just supports my theory that Rolling Stone is written by a bunch of 19 year-old college drop-outs whose idea of "research" is to use Wikipedia and then spend the other 7 and 3/4 hours of their working day on their PSP's

There you go again - I have no idea what a PSP is.

You would have to figure that anything played by The Red Army Band from about 1920 onwards changed the world more than any of the pop music on that list.
