Location: big island | our family dog was a great dane. she saved my brother, dennis, from being hit by a train. he was two and had wandered across the street to the railroad tracks while my mom was hanging clothes on the line. "candy", our dog, saw the impending disaster as a speeding freight train was approaching. the dog was chained and going frantic alerting my mom to the situation. candy broke her chain, ran across the street and up the bank knocking my brother off the tracks just in time. this was in el monte, california. i was six at the time and in school but recall coming home to find my mom still in a state of shock, trembling uncontrollably. |

Congratulations with your new CD
..that`s a FINE SELECTION o` songs Rick, being in the process of doing the same kind`a thing (though no-where in your league I`m sure )and using a Korg D3200 instead of a Tascam,I was wondering what mic`s U were using, perhaps dynamic for vocal and condensor for instruments ?..pick-up into stomp..?..Ow,do not give away All your secrets ( but a few maybe ?!)..though I hope it will take me less than a quart of a century to do it( once I figure out how to use that D3200  ..
What guitar is that on the pics ? ( quilted shallow ?)
Oh,and BTW Congrats with the TEN Year JUBILEE WellDone gluemaster :)

My SECRETS?! LOL! You'll pry them from my cold, dead fingers! Mu-ha-ha-ha-ha!
Actually, it's about as basic a setup as you can get. Vocals were done on a Shure SM 58 "pre-amped" through a Roland AC60 Acoustic Chorus amp. All instruments -- guitars, keyboards, drum machines -- were run direct into the Tascam using onboard effects on the Tascam. Most tracks feature a 1971 Ovation Balladeer with a Fishman Acoustic Natural pickup. A couple have a C-257 with an OP-30 (that's what the preamp says anyway -- and that's the guitar on the cover)and a couple have an Ibanez AEF18TVS for variety on a second or third guitar. The "electric" guitars on "Mary Jane's Last Dance" are using an onboard effect called -- appropriately enough --"Heartbreaker." The CD was a lot of fun to do, and we're in the process of doing a band CD now.
Disclaimer: no Super Glue was used in the making of this CD.
Anyway, back on topic -- I don't have a seeing eye dog, but I do have two psychotic cats. I think they got into my glue stash and suffered permanent damage.

The Wabbit Formerly Known As Waskel Amen to that. Don Henley STILL likes to record analog. |

Oh come on now wabbit..that comin`from a "computerman" ?!..having dabbled with electronics ,tapedecks, rec.players and the like, for longer than I would admit ( I`m sexteen and never been kissed)..I dare to say that my Korg D3200 beats any tape-deck made by a certain Swiss,Japanese,American, manufacturer..to mention but a few things : Heads misalignment,tape-stretch,etc. , plus they`d cost as much as a car, nah, today`s equipment is much nicer, and more affordable, say about 30 years ago,who could afford a condensor mic. ?..on other forums there are people wailing about " them cheap crappy condensors" made in PRC,and those equally crappy cheap mic.pre-amps,but even the cheapest/crappiest stuff to-day is as good as the very expensive stuff compared to way back then,..just recently I got rid of a STUDER 80 ( 2 channel )completely refurbished ,for about 500 USD,the thing was as big as a washingmachine,I`m glad it`s gone...but it was easy to use, mainly `cause it could only REC./PLAY..

Those are pretty big exceptions. |
