Camille Paglia's periodic column in Salon is a recurring joy. A comment in the latest installment really struck me:

My platform calls for a revalorization of the trades (which are related by craftsmanship to the art schools where I have taught for most of my career). Upper-middle-class families should be ready to support their children's unorthodox choice for a career in carpentry, masonry or landscaping. We need to strip the elite aura from the claustrophobic "prestige" jobs in sterile corporate offices, where high salaries drug the worker clones from recognition of their own imprisonment and castration.
The added emphasis is mine.

Every morning, I wake up and realize just how glad I am that I escaped from the prison she describes.

Somehow, I think this relates to guitars and Ovation. Making music and making good instruments seems like another version of the escape she advocates.

Da, Komrade! We will reject the stinking high salaries offered by the capitalist pigs!

I must be lucky. I don't feel drugged, imprisoned, or castrated. Bored occasionally, but for the money I can live with that.

Exactly the point. You have no recognition of your own castration. Neither does Robin Thicke, but I've heard him sing and I'm well aware of it.

Oh, I'm pretty sure I'd know.

Boss - "My boss says we need some eunuch programmers."
Dilbert - "I think he means UNIX and I already know UNIX."
Boss - "Well, if the company nurse comes by, tell her I said never mind."

Thank you for your support. :D

I had never heard of this woman before, but a quick search confirmed my first impression, She's a flippin' loon!

Here's one of her pearls of wisdom. No ego here!

"The only thing that will be remembered about my enemies after they're dead is the nasty things I've said about them".
