Location: Shotley Bridge, Northern England | To all the 'fixit' OFC members. I've just finished glueing a top crack in my 1758, and it came out really well. I originally intended to use superglue for this, but ended up using Aliphatic resin woodglue instead after reading Dan Erlewine's book. Worked great!
Question is this: the book says wet the wood first to allow capillary action to wick the glue into the grain further. The glue said apply to dry wood. I followed Dan, and wet the wood; all was well. Now I'm about to attempt repairs to an 84C, but this has 2 or 3 top cracks and it's for a friend, so I'd like the bext possible structural results. Please chip in with your experiences/views.

Location: Shotley Bridge, Northern England | Thanks Jason; that's helpful. Do you not have problems with cyano marking the top finish if it smears or runs? That's at the back of my mind.

Location: Shotley Bridge, Northern England | Great stuff. Does the cyano remover not strip the top finish? I've got some remover so could go with this. Thanks for the answers.
Oh, and it must be VERY early over there in Maryland? About 5am?
