Location: Bluffton, SC | Dropped into the local GC earlier today to pick up a shiny new set o' strings for next week and was looking for the VXT display. Didn't see it so I thought I'd wander back into the fishbowl. The kid walks in (yeah, you know the one - the same kid that's at all of your GC's) and says "Hey, man. See anything you like? I tell everybody to try the new Taylors. Killer. There's nothing like the new electronic system in 'em. Just killer. Nothing touches a Taylor. If you're looking for a new acoustic..."
Me: "Well, I'm really not. I was looking for the new Ovat..."
Kd: "VXT? Yeah, they only sent one and it was gone the next day. Sorry."
"The next day?"
"Yeah - great axe."
"Wow. Compare it to the T5 for me."
"No comparison. Blew it away. I love the Taylor's but that VXT? One spin on the dial and you've gone from a great acoustic sound to a rippin' axe. Real impressive. Only thing I can say against it - and I really don't like the Ovation sound so I'm not a fan but I shouldn't be talking like that - is it's ugly as hell. Black. That's it. Just black. Well, I hear they're coming out with a 'burst but I haven't seen one. Outside of that, it's great. I'd own one in a second."
"Wow - great review - thanks a lot. Later." |

Location: South of most, North of few | Wease, I thought we had the only "kid" at ours. Anyhow, went to the local one to pick up some drum parts (sorry) and saw the display. This one was a burst, didn't look all that bad. I picked it up, and man, what a clunky neck for an electric. I guess one could get used to it, I'm just used to the Strat neck. Didn't get to play it through an amp, as there wasn't one within 10 feet of the display. Sheesh. Fit and finish was great though. (that kid gets around) |

Location: Phoenix AZ | Nice of the GC kid to give it a thumbs up. I have not seen one in person yet but from the pictures it does appear a little punishing on the eyes. I'm sure there will be further improvements. Dave |

Since the Fender VG is also a Latest New Thing, it might be more revealing to ask their opinion to compare those two. I'm guessing the answer will be the one with the biggest margin. |

If that's true, that would certainly explain a lot of Gibson's bizzare marketing tactics of late. If this is old news or common knowledge then please forgive my ignorance, but can anyone varify whether or not this is true?
Back on topic: I tried the VXT recently. Pretty cool little axe, but I'm not a big fan of hybrid guitars so it's not something that would be for me, but anyone considering a T5 should definitely give this thing a test drive. |

I must admit to giving you all the Reader's Digest version as he also mentioned the VG but he hadn't played one yet so couldn't really compare them all. My point was simply that here was a committed Taylor fan that A/B'd the two and was extremely impressed with the Ovation. As for me, I was extremely impressed with the kid - very open minded. |
