It would be really cool if Al uncovered one. Always interesting to know where they all ended up after these years of mystery. I think the list Bill posted awhile back was pretty accurate.

Location: NJ | well as many of you know I made it out to Ohio for the summer show. Guitar shows in general have been on the decline since the advent of e bay. I still go to a few to press the flesh and hang out (I am a living legend in Columbus) and see my midwestern buddies even though they still insist on calling SODA, "pop". Pop was my father.
So a guy comes up to me and starts to finger the ne Ultra I brought along with me and asks if I know anything about Ovations. Me, wearing my "Ovation fan club" t shirt replies "sure a little" and gets ready for some annoying.
he started using words like pre production, pre tooling, and serial number 3 and Adamas and I was skeptical. I asked if he guitar was a slot head and he said it was. He insisted it was serial number 3 and I called him on it. I told him it could NOT be 0003 and that was that. He then explained that according to the chart he read it was the third guitar that got into production and he was not sure of the s/n because it was a mile long.
great, here is my card take some pics e mail it to me I would LOVE to see it. well he explained he only lived a mile away and he would go home and bring it to show me.
when he showed up with a brown case WITH SPARKLE ON THE OUTSIDE, my heart started to race. I threw open the latched to reveal a -2 slothead I looked in the soundhole to discover it was truely 0029.
I sat there in disbelief playing the guitar with the biggest grin you have ever seen on my face. I dragged the guitar out into the hallway took some pics and the owner told me the story.
he is a flatpicker and loves martins but was infactuated with the adamas guitars when they came outbut at 2500 he could not afford one. In 1980 he walked into a local music show saw the same guitar he lusted over but now on consignment for $650 and he rushed to the bank got the money and bought it. He has owned it ever since. At one point he loaned to a girlfriend who worn out the cowboy frets took a chunk out of the epaulet and some chunks out of the case.
I have exact details of the story written down and will let them out later. Pics will come after I find my camera and open up photoshop and resize them so I can post them. I use my digital camera on the lowest settings and it is still too small to just upload a pic UUUUUURRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHH!!!!.
so to say the least I had a GREAT time in Ohio. |

I'm sure there are other ways but one way to re-size a picture is to e-mail it to yourself and choose the "make picture smaller" option when it pops up.
It may not be the geek way to get-er-done but it gets-er-done. |

There is an image resizer in Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP. Just click on ImageResizer.exe on the right side of the screen to install the utility. The image resizer adds into the right-click menu. It appears to be the same utility email uses. It\'s nice to have it available all the time. It works on one or as many images that are selected. The default settings create a new resized image leaving the original untouched. Clicking on the Advanced Button gets you a Custom Size option, etc. |

It will be fun to see if 28 ever turns up. That one was stolen from Cat Litter and we made him another. |

I believe 41 and 50 are owned by the same dude.
Anyone notice on the list in the reference section that the actual delivery dates of the slotheads are not in sequential order of the serial numbers? Bill, did some just take longer to build than others?
I have a semi-detailed list in excel format. We should keep it active and maybe Miles can link it to this page, like he did for the decoder. It's buried in my website somewhere, I'll make a link when I get home Friday. Jerome could also add it to his site where he has photos of the originals.

It might be worth checking youtube for JJW clips. He toured with that guitar in the UK in 86 with Guy Clark and they did at least 1 national TV appearance. |

And they say lawyers are ruthless. That was a shot through the heart. Especially since she wants to leave the house before the guitar arrives so they can take the VW in to the shop. |

Nice find. Where is the owner? I'll tell him when I find him. As for me I'm still learning about digital vs film. White balance, exposure compensation, etc. I haven't taken enough pictures of guitars to be any good at it. I think Tupperware's pictures are the best one's I have seen. |

They all had add on heels.
I don't think Elias hangs out here much anymore. Long story best left where it is as I recall. |

Records I saw at the mothership indicated she only got one - but she said something about swapping one out - and Nick confirmed at the reunion - this occasionally happened...there is about 3 months difference in producion dates between 43 and 44...could account for this....Sam has pics I believe of her with 44....watch YouTube videos of her on slotheads - there seem to be differences in the epalauts on various videos. Ahhhh..the mystery of it all - it adds to the fun. 43 - when I originally got it - the nut had been recut - to severely narrow the string spacing...something she is known to do...she has tiny hands....the fun one would be if the Cat Stevens (Litter according to Bill)original ever shows up. |

| Hello Mark before I found this site I found your web site! I am still amazed at how many of these Slotheads you have had through the years. Facinating. I could not go the price you had on the one up at that time around 4.5 years ago now but I have ended up finding some Adamas 1's that have filled the bill so far and this nutty group of enthusiasts.
Good to hear from you I rarly see you posting in here.
What do you think of the slothead repro's....in general??
And I am looking very hard to find a Baritone Adamas 1 you wouldn't happen to have a line on one of these rare birds for sale anywhere wouldja?

| Elias; or whom ever he is at this point has signed his posts as Mark?? I am speaking of Elias's web site where he from time to time has Admas's for sale.
I will see if I can find it again and post a link.
We spoke back when I first decided to buy an Adamas like I remembered and wanted back when I was 17 I called him more than once and I could have owned one of these original Slotheads but as usual even though the price was not quite what they are worth now it was out of my league.
He is a wealth of knowledge on these Slotheads.

| The photo in the previous posts about the gold/beige slothead are certainly the one that Elias had for sale a while back. I am now unsure if his site is still runnning perhaps it is only when he has a few Adamas guitars for sale that it is up and going.
I am very confused now anyway I found some very negative posts on the web from elias, while doing a search for his site, concerning a predominant member in here and I am not sure if this was the decent thing to do to anyone for any reason.
Anyway, with that said,we are all nuts about Ovations and for me their flagship Adamas line is news no matter the story behind the personal shit.
Here's all I can find right now.

Location: Colorado | NorthCountry: You must have me confused with someone who has a web site...Or I am really confused...I hope Al will attest to you 100% I am not Elias - whoever that is... I think Cliff, Fugot, ProfessorBB,CWK2, PlayAdamas, Samova, even Stephent28 (banned I think)will also attest I am not Elias. Nor have I ever met the person you are refering to. Of this I know -Al's a cool dude (I digress) I own SH #43, I got it in a sordid tale in a store in Smyrna Georgia while looking for a 1537 - quite a while ago (1985)...it was an integral part of over 2000 Up With People Shows...then hundreds of pit orchesra shows over the years....it took the work of Darren and CWK2 at the mothership to determine its actual serial number...I made a small living with it...I even...oh my gosh...modified the electronics...for which Tim gave me the inimitable moniker of "Joey Mengele". But it made it cleaner and better in its electronic sound. Curious as it may sound - this was a tool for me - not a beloved family member. It still plays well - even if I don't. All the other stuff about #43's history is a lot of connect the dots...without all the dots - ergo - the full picture not really formed...heck Bill thinks he owned it for while. I've played the Re-issues - and think they are stunning in their sound...This particular instrument shines with its individual note definition - and ability to cut through orchestral mixes...for anything more technical - ask Cliff - he saw the Martinesque wave forms on the scope in Conn.....I have not heard an OFC quitar yet - but I am guessing it is stunning too...I'm hoping that the OFC guitar in Denver and #43 will spend some time together soon...it will be a fun A/B. BTW - I like #43 - and there are others made by other luthiers I like too...
If the OFC ever clims up to #43 in their issue...well then I have a dilemma ....

I used it at last night's rehearsal and need to put a lot more hours on it. |

| I never mentioned Al.....by the way......my god how things snowball in here.......Well now I obviously made a mistake in taking your post as one from this guy. Whoops........I knew I caused some confusion so I Thought I made it fairly clear with my posted link about whom I was speaking of? If it's not clear the name and other information is in the link I posted open it up and take a look.
No one has any need to attest to anything. If your name is not Elias then my postings do not apply. Sorry Elginacres...........
I only mentioned this guy because I thought he was the same I guy I talked with a while ago. Also thought he was just another knowledgable enthusiast like some of you guy's and had owned a few of these slotheads.
Did not know anything about the rest of this personal fiasco until I went searching for his web site.
And that little web rant I found(that I will say no more about)is way unprofessional and it shows a certain weakness of character to me.
Are we all good?
As for this guitar it's not my favorite color but it is so unusual it is a real one of a kind. Good luck with the one your after Al.

Now, MY list shows him as having(had) #30(not#31), but I could be wrong.
I seem to remember him contacting cwk2 a WHILE back, regarding advice on market value as he was contemplating selling. Bill hooked us up and we had a brief e-mail exchange. Nice guy. I vaguely remember something about him being a professional "cowboy singer" out SanDiego way, or something like that. I don't remember if he "sold" or not, but he was researching an asking price. I suggested the $10K BallPark (and I think Beal might've done the same) . . . |

Ron's(now yours) # 45 came from Ackerman's, as did my #54. #42(Steve Voss) ALSO came from Ackerman's (and his name was ALSO mis-spelled).
I'm running on two hours of sleep after a solo gig last night, and having a hard time recalling if Ron or Steve was the "singing cowboy" from SanDiego . . .
Do YOU remember, Beal??? . . .
ACTUALLY;
I think that the absolute EASIEST way t'keep an accurate track of all this information is for Witko t'buy a SlotHead, . . . cuz you KNOW that 7 minutes later, www.SlotHeadGallery.com will be up and running, and I won't have to "think" anymore . . . |

Sounds like 42, 45 and 54 might share a certain Ackerman's mojo ...

Unfortunately, it's a mere "shell" of what it once was. The guy who owns it now originally bought his first set of drums from Mrs. Ackerman (as I had bought my first guitar).
When I was there, he had just finished clearing out a storage area and found a box of old post cards of the store from "Back in the Day". He gave me one:

There's a 2670 (Randy Scruggs model - with the vine inlays and whacky peg heads) in the 48th St. Sam Ash window as I type this for...6,999.00! puh - LEEZE!

Dave I have witnesses to my TWO hole-in-ones in one round last month. The first one whisked just past the moving windmill arm, right into the dragon's mouth, popped out of the pipe on the lower level, directly into the hole. The second one was a perfect carom off the cement triangle, off the side curb and into the hole. |

It very well could be that the guy who owns #29 also has "a Life".

Sure, there are "trendy" looks like the 2080 & Al's Koa deals, or some Rainsongs, CA's, etc, but as a whole you could walk into a guitar shop today and easily re-create that same photo with current models. With all the reissues from Ovation, Gibson, Fender...it's like time hasn't even passed.
Then again, why mess with what works, right? |
