Location: Carle Place, NY | A few weeks ago the IMAC Theater in Huntington, NY, advertised a 40th Anniversary show of Ten Years After. My initial interest was quickly extinguished when I found out that Alvin Lee is not with the band.
Then today I saw an ad for the Lovin' Spoonful at Tarrytwon Music Hall. I went to the band's website and sure enough it's touring without John Sebastian.
There's probably a bunch of others, but to me this is just plain wrong. A band shouldn't tour under a name that's synonomous with one real talent when that artist is no longer with the band. |

In truth it should have read... "Now Appearing... the guys who hold the rights to the name.... Steppenwolf".
Steppenwolf without John Kay is just another cover band. |

Right.

Aw come on guys.... you're killing me here.
Eight hours without a single responce.
I thought that was some darn fine poetry and I was hoping for a little positive re-enforcement.
Ya know, with just a little encouragement I might become a famous song writer someday. |

Slipkid already mentioned Steppenwolf. (whch rained on my story) I saw them advertised at dumpy wannabee tourist biker bar years ago. (Ocean City, MD)
I was warned that it wasn't worth the price of the beer.
And we all know that Ozzie has tried to sue whoever is in Black Sabbath these days. |

As to copyrights and contracts, things happen. I think of John Fogarty and CCR. He was not only not with the band, but forbidden for years from publicly playing the songs HE had composed that made CCR succesful.
Be sober and have a good attorney at hand before signing a contract; right, Mark? (The Fishsticks made need a different kind of legal protection....)

Went to see Three Dog Night a loooong time ago. One of the dogs was in rehab. Couldn't really tell a difference. |

If I recall, he played for a significant Vietnam Vets event (The Wall/ditch?) and did a speach about putting things behind you before he ripped into Proud Larry...and plays the old songs now. |
