aloha and howdy y'all!
what started out as a molehill idea for a couple OFC guys to meet and have lunch is now generating into a mountain of interest with other OFC'ers in and out of the general vicinity of asheville, nc. ahh...beautiful, historic asheville.
here's the tentative idea: it will consist of a one-day, pot-luck, jam-session at a location TBA probably in or near asheville on saturday, june 9th.
wives, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, parents, siblings, cousins, in-laws and out-laws are all invited and expected (only if you have any).
i imagine we will get started with the fun, food and festivities around 10am and last until...the final OFC'er has busted the last string remaining on the last guitar or all the kids have worn us out, whichever happens first.
so far, begginjim, blues sailor, trboy, jpcannon
and myself are seriously considering this opportunity. if anyone else is game, please signify by typing "aye". you don't have to be from the southeast to qualify. just practice your drawl between now and then. just cuz we couldn't all make it to the shindig in yankee new hartford, doesn't mean we can't throw a rebel party in the carolinas. oh, and banjos, mandolins, dobros, ukuleles, dulcimers, washtub basses, scrubboards and bagpipes are all welcome.

Sorry Lanaki, the family is going to be stuck in LA awaiting our car that weekend. We start driving across country to Virginia on the 11th. Hoping things shake out to maybe hookup with Moody or Tupperware for lunch or something during our trip but right now that's even too far out to plan.

hey tim,
best wishes for a wonderful and memorable trek across the mainland. "stuck in LA" sounds like the title of a bad melodrama. i know you will miss the islands, but you will eventually return upon your official retirement, right? hawaii will keep calling you no matter where you roam, by the way. she is in your blood by now.

This sounds like my kind of get-together, Randy! I would be there in a jiffy jam if I weren't undergoing knee replacement surgery on June 5th. I would even leave the "friendly five" at home. LOL!!

Sounds like loads of fun. WAAAAAAAAAAAA!! :(

goober,
that plastic knee will set good in four days. no excuses. unless you're gettin' both done at the same time.
and stay away from the hooters or you may end up needing more than knees replaced...

heal well, buddy!

Lookin' forward to it. :D

I'm hoping someone can do something similar with the tour/jam.

I've got the '05 and '06 tour DVD heading this way. If it's OK with Waskel, I'll burn a copy for Oz and Richard, if they want one.

I am still a while from getting a resonator, but I'll bring my old yamaha that I'm using for slide. I'm not gonna let Randy come and not give a free lesson. He's just too good a resource to let get away.

OK I may be closer to showing up. The wife says it sounds good if we can stick around and do some white water rafting in the Ocoee. My schedule is very flexable, (they don't miss me at work) BUT...and its a big but, she has to check with her work as they do miss her if shes gone. (she has a real job) If its ok with them, then it's a go. I'll keep you posted.

Hey Brad, maybe this time we can get together. I just have to make sure we are set to go before I sign up, but I should know on Monday. If it is a go, we will do the river with you. We always go with Nantahala Outfitters. They seem to have really good guides and we always have a hoot!

Randy,
Just checking my schedule and looks like that would fit in with my travel plans; I'm in Lake Junealuska from the 10th to the 13th so this would be on my way one day earlier. Trying to co-ordinate with my wife and her schedule but put us down tenitively and keep us informed of the specifics; We'd love to meet everyone! (I'm thinking 1758 12er for this bash/gig/hoedown/event/happening)...well anyway, I can't wait...two great events in one month...just what I needed! See ya there!

From a simple lunch to... the OFC Blueridge Breakdown and Jamborree.

Randy, does this mean we have to get song sheets together? Anything in D, C, G and maybe an E or two will work for me! That's chords by the way!!!

I'll be bringin' the 1867, 1778 and 1158 (known as Ol' Blingy). I, however, will be leaving the 22, 38, and 45 at home. It is, after all, a family event.

Well, 10-4!

d'ya know any minor chords, jim?

songsheets would be great. i'd hate to have to pack and travel with mine so perhaps they can be generated/printed on your end (whoops, more innuendo :D )

a great site is www.cowboylyrics.com click on the letters of the alphabet and then print away the chords/tabs to your heart's content. DO NOT GET SIDETRACKED STARING AT THE SCANTILY CLAD WAHINE WHO IS USUALLY FEATURED IN THE BANNER ACROSS THE TOP!!!

Randy,
Well, I'd invite you (and if you're brave you're welcome) to stay wherever it is that we'll stay Saturday night but with a 4 month old that is teething...well you get the picture I'm sure...I do love to share the joy but I'm compassionate as well, lol! BTW, if you need a guitar, I'll bring several; not sure if you're bringing one from the islands. Looking forward to it as much as going on my first tour and jam in CT in 10 days!

BTW, for first time visitors to the South, here is a bit of local info:

TRAVEL WARNING

Issued by the Southern Tourism Bureau to ALL visiting Northerners, Northeastern Urbanites, and Canadians:

1) Don't order filet mignon or pasta primavera at the Waffle House. It's just a diner. They serve breakfast24 hours a day. Let them cook something they know. If you confuse them, they'll kick your butt.

2) Don't laugh at our Southern names. (Merleen, Bodie, Ovine, Luther Ray, Tammy Lynn, Darla Beth, Inez, Billy Joe, Sissy, etc.) These people have all been known to kick butt.

3) Don't order a bottle of pop or a can of soda down here. Down here it's called Coke. Nobody gives a flying damn whether it's Pepsi, RC, Dr. Pepper, 7-Up or whatever- it's still a Coke. Accept it. Doing otherwise can lead to an butt kicking.

4) We know our heritage. Most of us are more literate than you (e.g., Welt, Williams, Faulkner). We are also better educated and generally a lot nicer. Don’t refer to us as a bunch of hillbillies, or we'll kick your butt.

5) We have plenty of business sense (e.g., Fred Smith of Fed Ex, Turner Broadcasting, MCI WorldCom, MTV, and Netscape). Naturally, we do, sometimes, have small lapses in judgment (e.g., Carter, Edwards, Duke, Barnes). We don't care if you think we are dumb. We can still kick your butt.

6) Don't laugh at our Civil War monuments. If Lee had listened to Longstreet and flanked Meade at Gettysburg instead of sending Pickett up the middle, you'd be paying taxes to Richmond instead of Washington. If you visit Stone Mountain and complain about the carving, we’ll kick your butt.

7) We are fully aware of how high the humidity is, so shut the heck up, spend your money, and get the heck out of here -- or we'll kick your butt.

8) Don't order wheat toast at Cracker Barrel. Everyone will instantly know that you're from Ohio. Eat your biscuits like God intended, with plenty of sausage gravey. Don't put sugar on your grits, or we'll kick your butt.

9) Don't fake a Southern accent. This will incite a riot, and you will get your butt kicked.

10) Don't talk about how much better things are at home because we don't give a dang. Many of us have visited Northern hellholes like Detroit, Chicago, and DC, and we have the scars to prove it. If you don’t like it here, Delta is ready when you are. Take your butt home before it gets kicked.

11) Yes, we know how to speak proper English. We talk this way because we don't want to sound like you. We don’t care if you don't understand what we are saying. All other Southerners understand what we are saying, and that's all that matters. Now, go away, or we'll kick your butt.

12) Don't complain that the South is dirty and polluted. None of OUR lakes have caught fire like scenic Lake Erie once did. Whine about OUR scenic beauty, and we'll kick your butt all the way back into Boston Harbor.

13) Don't ridicule our Southern manners. We say "sir" and "ma'am," hold doors open for others, and offer our seats to old folks because such things are expected of civilized people. Behave yourselves around our sweet little gray-haired grandmothers or they'll kick some manners into your butt just like they did ours.

14) So you think we're quaint or losers because most of us live in the countryside? That's because we have enough sense not to live in smelly, crime-infested cesspools like New York or Baltimore. Make fun of our fresh air, and we'll kick your butt.

15) Don't claim that we can't run an election. The problem is in Florida, a northern state. Claiming Florida is part of the South will get your butt thoroughly kicked.

16) Last, but not least, DO NOT DARE come down here trying to tell us how to cook Barbecue. This will get your butt shot off (right after it is kicked). You’re lucky we let you come down here at all. Question our sacred BBQ, and you go home in a pine box----minus your butt!
(edited for content: I am a Minister,lol)

I couldn't pass this up! Enjoy!
:D

mahalo, musicmike. our arrangements are already made as my wife has a business seminar that week.

my 1688 12'er is really itchin' to make this trip but i'll refrain. i will be traveling with two toddlers, one who is teething also. and we have lots of ground to cover when we are there so it is best i don't burden myself even more. i am considering visiting a few guitar places like this one: www.dreamguitars.com when i am there though.

Well let's see... I know a Cm, Am, Em, Dm, Fm (I think, isn't that one of those Bar CHords) If you move it up the fret board does that make it a Gm?

I recon I have some studying to do. Can we reschedule for 2010? I am from the South and we take everything real slow.

But I can still kick your butt!! :D :D :D ;)

Great post MM, I laughed so hard my daughter came down from upstairs to find out what was so funny.

i enjoy cowboy chords the best. i like simple songs, the kind most folks know, can relate to and like to sing along with. i can play a little slack key, a little jazz, a bit o'blues, some rock n' roll, but mostly i'm fond of easy listening and uplifting stuff. we will have good fun. and there ain't nothin' like GOOD fun.

There you go being humble again, we expect big things from you young Lanaki!

I hope to hear what my guitars can do with experience strumming them.

I will try to catch a chord or two or just sit back and listen. That's what I enjoy the best anyway.

"young" is a state of mind. Funny, but when I was young, the adults said that I acted much older. Now that I am older, my kids friends tell me that I act much younger.

I will be talking to some people today, trying to find a site for the Blue Ridge Mountain's Family Jamboree. (I would use OFC in there but I see that it's Trademarked) Maybe Miles will give us permission to include it.

Then we can have t-shirts made that say "Get Plugged in the Mountains". Hmmm...that may be easily misinterpretted?! :D Well, I will leave the slogans up to ya'll.

Happy rafting. :D

Hey guys, I told Randy already, but I won't be able to make it as the wife has to be at work that Friday. I considered driving up Friday night, but you wouldn't like me after no sleep. I don't even like me after no sleep! Anyhow, enjoy, and take a lot of pictures. Feel free to send me any you can.

I called Philmax to let him know what's up. He's been so busy trying to get his business running that he hasn't been here in weeks. The 9th is his wife's b-day, so we may have the two of them to kick around.

Let's get a roll call and start passing around tabs and chords to learn.

the first tabs and chords we should pass around is :"Happy Birthday To You" then! what's philmax's wife's name, so we get the song down pat. it's not "pat" is it? ;)

jim, you will be sorely missed. i wuz really hoping to meet you face to face at this event, however, i will see you at next year's OFC factory tour/jam Good Lord willin' and the ocean don't rise. if it does, i may see you before then!

It is NOT Pat, and we won't be singing the song that bears her name. It was recently disclosed that it's the number one song everyone hates to play.

Originally by a pure league of the prairie variety.

I know five songs and you just knocked the list down to four. If you cutout "horse with No Shame" make it three. Randy send me "happy birthday" tabs please. Maybe I can learn it before we get together.

"...whatcha gonna do?..."

interestingly, i have never played, nor attempted to play that song. i like it though.

so...jim and i think we have the location and he has reserved the French Broad River Park for us. directions to follow soon. does anyone plan on spending the night, friday or saturday, in the area?
let me know and i'll check on the rates at where my family is staying at the Mountain Inn & Suites a few miles south of the park. i know it is nice and certainly $20-30 less than the nearby Holiday Inn.

the french broad river park is on Amboy Road which runs adjacent to I-26 in asheville. if you are traveling in a northerly direction on I-26 you will take exit 6, make a left at the end of the ramp and continue to where that road which is called Long Shoals dead ends at Amboy. make a right and the park will be on your right side in 3-4 miles.
if you are getting onto I-26 off of I-40, take exit 2 and make a left on to Amboy Road. you will pass biltmore square mall on your left. continue on a couple miles to the park which will be on your left.

unfortunately, the city of asheville's parks and recreation site is under construction for their maps link or else i would post something more formal.

let's KISS it then and play it in G. please practice your G, G7, C and D7 chords.

and in the event philmax and amy are no-shows, you will have at least learned a new song to add to your amazing repertoire.

I think it took about 20 pages to get the NW group together last summer and we never even got to the exchanging tabs and learning songs part. You guys are way ahead in that department, but we concentrated on what beer to bring. That's why I like it in the NW.

Feel free to PM me if you want to. i can check from this end as well but it will be Friday or Monday before I can check. Thanks for spearheading this event: sounds like it will be a GAS! Barney was the illegitimate child of Floyd the Barber and AuntBea (that's why Andy never sh!t-canned him after all of his screw-ups).

They just never "detailed" that part in the script (pretty much the same way Floyd just unexplainably "disappeared" after Andy caught him in the back-room of the barber shop with Opie).

thanks, cliff. i am glad someone in-the-know finally cleared the air on that controversy.

just as a matter of record, floyd didn't actually "disappear". he hitch-hiked to california and caught a matson barge to hawaii. he eventually started up a tourist escort service in honolulu. changed his name to chapman and hired chad gates, aka elvis presley as a tour guide. he then traveled back and forth to mt. airy, nc rather incognito for the next six years.

here is my short list of relatively simple and (sometimes) fun songs that we could play, and the (random) chords involved:
if anyone would like a songsheet on these pm or email me and i will do my best to get it/them to you.

"heart of gold" (Em-C-D-G...) i'll bring the harmonica

"right or wrong" by george strait and others (E7-A7-D7-G-Bbdim-D7-E7-A7-D7-B7-E7-A7-G-D7-G)

"your cheatin' heart"/"jambalaya"/"hey good lookin'"
(C-C7-F-G7-C...)

"folsom prison blues" (E-E7-A-E-B7-E)

"for the good times" (C-Dm7-G-C-Dm7-G-C-C7-F-G7-C-F-Dm-G)

"i can't help falling in love with you"
(C-G-C-F-C-G-G7-F-G-Am-Dm-C-G-C...chorus: Em-Am-A7-Dm-G7)

"danny's song" (C-G-Am-Dm7-G...F-G-C-Am-F-G-C...)

"lahaina" by loggins and messina (G-D7-C-C7-G7)

"blue hawaii" (G-C-G-E7-A7-D7-G-C-G...) ya' didn't think we'd get by without learning and playing a few hawaiian style songs, did ya? and these have english lyrics. be prepared to learn a little hawaiian and perhaps be treated to a traditional hula by my lovely wife.

"roller derby queen" (croce - E-A7-B7-G)

"bad, bad, leroy brown" (G-A7-B7-C-G-D7-G...)

"mdlybgutbc" (willie and waylon - D-G-A-D...modulate up to E-A-B7 on second verse)

"under the boardwalk" (F-C7-Bb-Dm...)

i'd like to try "i hate everything" by george strait. i'm just learning it. bring capos, (G-C-Am-G/B-D...)

"jesus, take the wheel" i'll try to get my wife to sing it (capo first fret - C-G/B-Am7-F...)

"you look so good in love" (G-Bm-Am-D-D7...)

"a house of gold" by hank williams sr. (C-F-G)

"king of the road" (C-F-G7-G-C7...)

if ya wanna - "margaritaville" (D-A7-G-D7-Bm7...)

"battle of new orleans" (G-C-D7)

"uneasy rider" (G-C-D7)

"last kiss" (original version - C-Am-F-G...)

that's it for now...i gotta get to work.
please submit songs that you would like us all to jam on too.

Boy, I must have skimmed over this before. I not only have to learn more chords (than the 3 that I already know) and more songs (than the 5 that I already know) but now I am actually expected to learn Hawaiian too?! Sheez, I haven't learned this much since...since...since I can't remember when.

Well I am sure that it will be worth it to watch your wife do the Hula! But Randy, seriously now, we only want to see your wife do the hula. Remember your back, your old, can't play a deep bowl, tired, needing medical assistance back?

Need I say more?! Remember the "video threat" if you have any ideas otherwise.

I can bring my vintage 1968 Kazoo. Yep, the one that I played in third grade music class. I sent it back to the tin factory (no cheap plastic back then) and they refinished it with lead paint and a new piece of wax paper over the sound hole. Plays like new, but with a loose more broken in sound. Talk about a treat!. I have not yet mastered playing it with my guitar though because I can't find a neck Kazoo holder anywhere.

Try a little superglue on your lips. It should last through the weekend and you'll be the life of the party. Just be sure to insert the kazoo before you put your lips together.

(hmmm, just checked the location. Maybe not...)

Okay.
Stick your head through a coathanger. Stretch, pull, and bend it 'till it sits nice and firm on your shoulders.

Get the hook part in front, bend it up in front of your face. (Be careful not to poke your eyes out, Mom will have a fit.) Straighten and bend it up in front of your face. With pliers, bend the end of the now straightened hook around your kazoo. Duct-tape it in place. (It's not a real handyman project without duct tape, eh?)

Now, go outside and blow!

jim,
please don't bother to show up at the good ol' boys southern-style jam with either a kazoo superglued to your lips or wearing a coat hanger and duct tape. we don't wanna get thrown outta the park before we get tuned up. besides, asheville is a respectable place.

i have a harmonica holder which will easily accomodate your kazoo.

There will be no additional instruments... I have enough trouble breathing and playing the guitar at the same time

musicmishka (mike) is offering to bring his Carvin PA system, 6 mics, etc., etc. begginjm is checking on the availability of electricity at the gazebo he has reserved for us. i'm fairly certain it is wired. this will give all of us a good chance to hear the different guitars plugged in as well as acoustic too. anyone care to suggest a theme song? (besides "i was drunk the day my mama got out of prison")

edit: does anyone that is ATTENDING this function care to suggest a theme song for us?

(i'm scared of what fillhixx might suggest so this is why i chose to qualify it :D )

For a theme song, my first thought was Honeysuckle Blue by Drivin\' n Cryin\' . It's sort of a local anthem about showing the beauty of the south to those who haven't seen it. Anybody else heard it?

I play it:
Intro: A-G-D-A
Verse: A-E-G-D-A

Man, only 3 weeks away. I confess that I know very few singalong songs, and the songs I play most, nobody knows. Most of my playing has been praise band related. I'm going to try to learn as many off Randy's list as I can. They look pretty easy.

I'll try to suggest a few this week too.

lanaki

Randy (Lanaki) may have further updates that I am not aware of.

FYI, I recieved info that there is no power where we will be having the gettagetha. We will just have to go the acoustic route and play LOUD. Also, we decided that it would be easier for everyone to pack in their own lunch, etc.

I am looking forward to meeting you and the rest of gang. If I can get anyone any info, just PM me or let me know here.

somebody pack a generator and drive it to the jam.

on second thought, gas costs too much. never mind.

i have invited bill's friend and professional musician, steve sutton, to the jam. don't know yet if he can make it.
it'd be nice to have a pro or two there to show us amateurs a few licks. i'm an amateur too, it's just that i'm a lucky man who gets paid to play now and then.

general question: being not generally familiar with generators, do they need to be generating power as we are generating music or do they generally store the power for later use?
i'm just generalizing, but i can just see us trying to generate some good music as they are generating power and i think there would be a "generation gap" in the harmony between the two.
also, general jim would have to see if generators are generally allowed at this park.
jim and i will be meeting on the 6th to check out the facility and our options. the location may change so stay tuned. bottom line is: if we go totally acoustic, that would be okay too.

I have sent an e-mail to the Parks and Rec People about using a generator.

Randy and I will scout out an alternative place in the event of inclement weather.

trboy,

your generator will power one amp (If I understand what Honda tells me about it). Musicmike mentioned a Carvin PA system with 6 mikes, etc. I don't kmow if this requires more power than your generator or not. Ok MM, whatcha thinkin?

The parks commission is asking for the size of the generator, I think I will tell them that it will be large enough to light up the Biltmore Estate if needed. "Yes Dear, uh..huh, yes goverment people honey" Well, my lovely wife tells me that may not be such a good idea, something about misinterpreting what "light up" means.

Randy, my mother told me "that Sugar (pronounced shoe-ga) melts in the rain."

Capt'L,

that's a great old Allman Bros. song (and Govt. Mule). I might be able to play a few of those chords. (but only softly so that no one can hear my mistakes).

Look forward to hearing you play it!

Listen to the Govt. Mule version, but the Allman Bros version is good too. I leave out the "damn sure" to make it family friendly.

Also, here is Pieces of April . I do it in A also, but I sing it more like the Dave Loggins version than the Three Dog Night.

Hey, I just thought, while we're on 3DN, me might try Shambala . I haven't tried out these chords yet, being at work.

i'm impressed, james.

i got the gov't mule version of "soulshine" too. interesting that they play it in Bb like allman's version.

the 3dn songs are good ones too. haven't played them before, but i'm an old dog...

I have talked to Trboy today and he is checking the amp output from his 1000 watt Honda generator. If some you electricity geeks out there could translate watts to amps it would be appreciated.

Phoenix, Thanks for stopping by, I visted your thread @ HFC and it looks to be quite the shindig. Maybe I can come join you next year. (that is a threat by the way). The Hamer Hot sauce  sounds like quite a treat. Y'all have fun now, ya hear!

ALL Honda portable generators have mufflers with USDA qualified spark arrestors, so they're perfect for use in U.S. National Forests.(and PARKS)

Just for the record, on chords with a slash, I reserve the right to play the major chord without a slash.

Good song choices - I like both Shambala and Running On Empty. I'm with the good Captain... no slashes.

Trboy,

thanks for the info on the generator!

This will give us all the opportunity to hear our favorites through an amp and/or PA.

If it can't provide enough power we may have to do a few minor alterations. ARH..ARH..ARH..ARH (Tim the Toolman Taylor)

jim, chords written with a slash ex: D/F# or C/G, are specific to playing an alternate bass note with the chord. a C/G chord is sometimes called a "full C". you play a normal C but your ring finger goes to the low E (sixth)string at the third fret (it's a G note on the bass string, hence the C/G) and your pinky plays the fifth string 3rd fret.

Randy/Jason,

I'm bringing the UTE and my 1537 and hopefully one more, plus a Tak '98 LTD that is being delivered to it's new owner during the Jam.

There should be plenty of guitars.

Come on down Jason, there will definately be more guitars than players. I will be bringing the four Ovations listed in my sig. From beater to Beauty.

Hope the tea leaves spell out ASHEVILLE for ya!

Good suggestion Captain!

If I haven't mentioned it before, the Gazebo, hereinafter to be known as THE STAGE, does not have any seats. There are picnic tables on the deck surrounding THE STAGE. Add seats of your choosing to the "Thangs Ta Brang" List.

We do get the deck as well as THE STAGE. I will be bringing at least two cars and can bring as many fold up chairs as will fit (after the O's of course). I can bring coolers too.

Randy and I are doing a trip there on the 5th to check things out. If it will not work then we will find somewhere, in the area, that will.

I'm picturing Jason in the dark with no lights on except for the red glow of the amp power light with a wicked grin on his face - all knobs turned to 10...

"On the day I was born, the nurses all gathered 'round
And they gazed in wide wonder, at the joy they had found
The head nurse spoke up, and she said leave this one alone
She could tell right away, that I was bad to the bone
Bad to the bone
Bad to the bone
B-B-B-B-Bad to the bone
B-B-B-B-Bad
B-B-B-B-Bad
Bad to the bone"

Here is an update: there has been a personell problem at the Hospital where my wife works: she is now the only RN on her shift with two CNA's helping her: she is working 5 nights a week as they have cancelled all vacation and time off for the forseeable future. I can not go into what happened but it has affected so many families. What this means is that as of now, we have no baby sitter/child care other than several hours if I am away. She is schedualed to work the 9th, and 10th; If I cannot find a solution I cannot leave. We live in a beautiful area but abet it is a rural one and so we are our child care. I know that this will impact the gathering as I had planned bringing the PA as well as several guitars, etc. I am working to find a solution; this affects the conference for my job the next week as well that I was supposed to attend. Please keep Violetta in your prayers as this is an extreamly stressful situation for her in particular and us in general. I will keep you updated!
Blessings...
Mike

Mike, I hope that everything works out fine for all of you. I was really looking forward to meeting you and the family. There will always be next year's tour?! Or maybe we can have a 2nd annual Southern Jam. Of course, we still have to get the first one in books.

If you can't bring a sledgehammer on the plane, I will see what I can come up with. :D

Hey Jim! Since you're gonna have your uke, try this for Blue Hawaii
It should come up in key of G for uke

And this for Somewhere Over the Rainbow

We'll get Randy to show us the right way once we butcher them.

How about that chordie.com! You can transpose and alter the tabs for different tunings and instruments. Cool!

By the way, I'm putting me together a songbook of chord sheets and lyric pages for as many of the songs we called out as I can find. I'm going to try to print out a few copies and stick them in some binders. I'll also try to bring some music stands.

Captain, "butcher" does not do what I can do on a uke justice. (Especially since I have never played one). I can butcher a guitar though.

Randy will have his hands full!

Hey! It looks like me and the missus are in! I'm really looking forward to this. I'll bring the 47 RI, the 1538 and something else - maybe the Country Artist. A nylon string might add some intersting sonic texture...

Is anyone bringing a 1537?

Designzilla, Great to see that y'all are coming!

Be sure to look for any updates Tuesday night. Randy and I will be making a site tour that day.

Here is the current confirmed list:

Captain_Lovehandles, MusicMishka, Trboy, Designzilla, Crimsonlake, Bluessailor, Lanaki, BegginJM. Did I leave anyone out?

Jason_S..any more thoughts about attending? A man of your talent would be warmly welcome (regardless of what Heather says)
:p

We would love to have anyone else come join us for Good Music, Lots of O's and A's, beautiful mountain surroundings, and a chance to see the mugs behind the keyboards. Are we really the same in person? What else do you really have to do that's better than this?

With all of the talent that is coming I guess I will have to bring the camcorder and camera to record the Big Event. Y'all can thank me later (after hearing my lack o talent).

Best regards to all,

Jim

OK guys and gals... I have recieved a response from the nice lady at the Parks Commission in Asheville, regarding our ability to plug in. Here is her response "Literally a heavy-duty extension cord out the window of the equipment room with one plug. Multiple-plug adaptor not allowed. Will that work / help?"

So, I put it to y'all, will one plug be enough?

one plug should work. we only need to plug in the PA, right?

It's probably a "liability" issue . . .

If y'got a P.A., one plug is all you need.

If the the 47RI is half the guitar of it's "namesake", . . it shouldn't NEED a plug . . .

There's always the "set aroun' an' jam" method, where we don't even need a PA.

which is my preference. but then again, it would be nice to hear what the pluggable guitars sound like.

with a good PA, we may have the whole neighborhood flocking to see what sounds like a world-class band. shoots, let's charge admission and recoup the travel expenses. shoots again, there are music industry people living in asheville. we may just get discovered...

that's why i left the dot, dot, dot at the end of that sentence, as an opening for cliff.

uh...yeah, yeah Randy?!

Did I forget to tell y'all about my Satellite truck? Big as a house! As a matter of fact I can communicate with Mars, yeah, that's it, Mars!

Yeah, yeah, I can talk to the Andromeda Galaxy. Yeah, that's right, that's the ticket!

We don't need no stinkin plugs. I do have a digital camcorder though. Not live , but Memorex!

For those that do not want to be recorded, a LARGE donation at the door will be graciously accepted! Proceeds to go to the BegginJM Fund! Yeah, yeah, a VERY worthy fund! The Greatest fund in the Universe, no GALAXY! That's the ticket.

MacArthur Park is melting in the dark, all the sweet, green icing flowing down,
Someone left the cake out in the rain,
I don't think I can take it, cause it took so long to bake it,
And I'll never have that recipe again, oh no, oh no!

Happy Birthday Capt! We will sing for you next weekend. Lanaki told me that I couldn't play Happy Birthday though, or maybe it was my wife that said it?

Regardless, Have a Great One.

jason,
i carried a st. christopher medallion around for many years when i was in elementary and middle school. i was hoping for protection from all the chicano gang members that would beat us caucasians up on the way to and from school in LA county. it must have worked cuz i'm alive and typing this reply to you today, although, i was beaten up a few times.
nowadays, i realize i can go straight to the Source for protection and that i am a saint as much as christopher.
jim mentioned to me yesterday that you would not be able to make it. i was hoping you could cuz i was going to give you our supply of hand sanitizer. :D we'll probably catch you at next year's OFC tour though.

Ah yes, Randy you and I have very much in common. I was a Catholic in my early years. Now I am not, as you are not also....No need to be canonized (sp?) we are there! :D enjoy your times in NC and Tenn, only wish I could make it. :( Give Mike a howdy for me at Dollywood!

Okay, we're up to 32 songs I think. Randy and I have added a few more. So we'll have fun picking through them. I'll bring song sheets and some music stands.

Also, If you have a few you want to perform for us, that would be a special treat. Music, you know we're looking forward to your song(s).

The Flaming Lips were on Austin City Limits last night (rerun), and I got inspired to learn Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Part 1

It's easy and fun.

Randy - safe travel and I'll see you in a week. I'll be hitting the road at about 6 am on the 8th - stopping to see an old friend in Winston-Salem on friday night and then on to Ashville on saturday morning. I'll have my 10 year old co-pilot in tow keeping me amused for the 10 hour drive.

Captain,

I will be there by 10:00. Pretty sure Randy will be there by 10:00 too. We have the use of the facility until 6:00. I doubt anyone will run us out if we choose to stay longer.

Forecast: 90 Degrees - 40% chance of thunderstorms.

Randy/Jim,

Please post (re-post?) hotel information and directions to the park. I have reservations already for Friday night, but can change them to move to the same place others are staying.

We'll kick this thing off early!

This Happy Birthday thing is getting WAAAYYY out of hand.

Blues, I am going to Asheville tommorrow. I will meet Randy and we are going to the park to check everything out. I will post directions to the park tommorrow night or Wednesday morning after the visit and will look for nearby hotels.

I am not sure who is staying Friday or Saturday or where. If everyone would like to PM or e-mail me about where they are staying and when, I will try to be the clearing house so to speak.

I am coming Saturday morning (only an hour and a half drive) and am thinking of staying in a hotel that night.

Happy Birthday Blues, look forward to seeing ya!

I will try to find a couple of hotels near the park. Will check availability and rates. Randy is staying about twenty minutes down the road in Hendersonville, so I may check out the same there, but in a previous conversation with him I believe he is going to his father's Saturday night to visit.

I will know ALOT more tomorrow!

Don't I know it!

Looks like there is no central layover point in Asheville on Friday night, so I'll keep my current reservations. I'll be in Friday night about 7-8 pm and will be available Saturday morning to help set-up. I've got extra chairs and a music stand. I'll also bring 2 guitar stands, but I'll have 3 guitars.

Lookin' forward to it!

Hey guys. Looks like my wife and I can't make it. She had some medical issues come up today and the doc said she shouldn't travel. I am really bummed! But I'm really worried about her. She has had cardiac issues in the past. I just want to make sure she's going to be OK. We have both really been looking forward this. My wife really feels extra bad cause she feels guilty that we can't make the trip because of her. I really wish we could be there. I know it's going to be a blast.

DZ,

Please tell your wife not to feel bad, her health is the important thing. Both of you will be missed greatly. Hopefully there will be plenty more Southern Jams in the future that we can see the both of you.

I am going to meet Randy at about High Noon in Hendersonville. I have spoken with him on the phone, and he had a safe trip, still tired from the time difference.

First time I have heard his voice, so here were our thoughts (I am assumming for him):

Jim on Randy: Hmmm...doesn't sound Hawaiian?!

Randy on Jim: Yep...Redneck, just as I thought!

Well, I will post later this evening with interesting answers to boring questions, such as:

Is Lanaki REALLY HAWAIIAN?

Is BegginJM REALLY A REDNECK?

(Hint: you already know the answer to one of these questions.)

(I can take advantage of Randy becuase he is without a computer at the moment)

OK, back from the little trip. I met Randy, his three lovely daughters and his step son. We went to the park to check out the arrangements. Not quite as we had envisioned (as envisioned: Gazebo surrounded by deck full of picnic tables)

More like Gazebo with a few pinic tables and a deck around, as in near it. Should be a lovely place however for the Jam. Great shade, facilities (not outhouses) right by Gazebo, walking trails for dogs, people, bikers.

Look in my albums for a few pics of Gazebo.

I am going to post directions and hotel info shortly.

Captain, where did you get that picture of Randy and me?

After researching hotels near the park, I have found a number of them to be sold out. (you can try the Comfort Suites at Biltmore Square Mall). So instead of trying for one hotel at this late date, I thought it may be better to let those that need a hotel to book one on their own. Any hotels located on Rocky Ridge Road, Wedgefield Drive, or Brevard Road are within about three miles from the Park.

Here is the map to the French Broad River Park: French Broad River Park location

PM or call me if you have any questions. I will be there by 10:00am on Saturday. My cell phone is (864) 275-5412.

Please bring lawn chairs or anything else you would like to sit on, guitar stands, a lunch of some sort, drinks of some sort (alcohol not allowed in park). There are bathrooms and plenty of shade available.

I am really looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Safe travels, Jim

aloha from flat rock, nc!

here i am typing on a sweet little laptop that jim left for me to use while i am here and he also blessed me with a cherry 1867 to strum between now and saturday. having never played an ssb before, i am quite impressed with the sound and projection of this one.
jim is a fine, upstanding young man and we had a great time carousing around asheville. he was ever-so-tolerant and accomodating.
the park location should prove to be very nice for our planned musical adventure.

my family's timeclock is 6 hours behind the local time and the jetlag has really taken its toll on us. gotta go. the kids are needing my attention. mahalo, jim!

see ya'll soon.

Tolerant? Heck I was having a great time! All of your kids are great. The too oldest ones have great heads on their shoulders and the two young ones couldn't be any cuter.

After seeing the recent birthdays in this post, I now know that that I ain't the youngest either.

For those wanting to plug in, we will have a Parks and Rec Maintenence person on site at 10:00 am with a cord. I will be there by then to meet him.

Trboy, if it's not too much trouble, would you still bring your generator? At this point, I would feel better about having it there, just in case. A big THANKS in advance.

Suggestion:

If you're mixing Acoustic (albeit Acoustic/Electric) Guitars and a Generator, I would recommend having an (preferrably 100') extension cord available . . . just for some "distance" . . .

Thanks for the advise Cliff. Hopefully we won't have to resort to a generator if the "Maintenence" person shows. I will throw a 100' reel in with everything else.

Not too late to get in the car and come on down ya know!

Yep! I was still planning on bringing the generator and a couple 50' extension cords.

The small generator is fairly quite. We use it on our pontoon for night fishing....the gentle hum can lull you to sleep if night fishing weren't so exciting!

.....might be a bad ideal.....the generator's gentle hum and my guitar playing....everyone will be asleep.....

Well, it's all over but the fun now!

All that's left, is a safe and quick journey, for everyone, to Asheville.

I am very excited to have the opportunity to meet everyone, I hope that y'all feel the same way after meeting me. (Randy said I was crazy, but I never acknowleded his remark).

So, last thoughts:

1) Does Lanaki sound Hawaiian? (I know the answer to this one)

2) What is a Trboy? (Yep, know this one too)

3) Is Captain_Lovehandles just his Trucker name? (Sorry, not a clue, but I heard that most of the graffiti in the Hotlanta area was done by his gang)

4) Will CrimsonLake bring a Banjo to the Jam? (Hmmmm...please refer to earlier posts)

5) Is BluesSailor really Elvis's long lost Son? (Well uh, well uh, if you give me a uh, peanut butter, banana, and bacon samich I may tell ya)

6) Will MusicMiska live up to his reputation of fine voice and song? (sure he will, fortunately for the rest of us)

7) What is BegginJM really beggin for? (that's an easy answer. Those that attend will know immediately, other than for his lack of hair)

By the way, how do you play Happy Birthday again? Send the lyrics too, please!

Save Travels, Jim

I see Tr is bringing a snare. I was planning on bringing a couple of congas. When we had the deal at Phil's house, the electronic drums were all Popcritic wanted to play. I daresay that Kaki may be a better drummer than he.

This way, the kids will have something to whack besides Jim's bald head.

I'll bring a set of bongos. My wife played them one night and thought quite highly of her sound. I thought quite highly of the wine's ability to make her sound good.

Capt., someone needs to knock some since into me.

Trboy, bring a bass too. We can have a little jazz trio.

Wonder what Kaki's doing this weekend?

What a great day, what great people with great voices, what great guitars making great music, what a great time! What a great disappointment that it had to end.

Can't really say how great it was! ;)

For a relative newbie here, I approached today with the uncertainty that unfamiliarity brings. After today I will approach these type of gatherings being better prepared to play the songs on the list. :o

I know that I smiled all day and said plenty of stupid things to my new found friends, even though I can't remember specifics. I also know that it all went by so quickly. There are still so many unanswered questions that I want to ask about and of these "not so strangers anymore".

I also know that if you don't close the tailgate on your Mountaineer properly, the little light comes on and says "the rear hatch is open. You are about to lose five great guitars to the highway Gods". Cracker Barrel my arse, imagining my guitars in a million pieces on I-26 is more like it! :D

Did I say how great the day was? I was humbled by the incredible talent and kindness of all that attended. Pictures to follow.

Nicky, you are my hero! Seriously!

Has Cliff posted his 10,000th yet?

I feel the same way, Jimbo. This may have been the perfect day. I can see how the Factory Tour crowd can be so close. Here were seven guys that I'd never met before, and given more time together, I feel like EVERY one will be a good friend. We're off to a great start at least.

More later, but I left the house at 5:30am and returned at 12:30 am, so I'm ready for bed. But a couple of impressions:

* If you ever get the chance to see Lanaki, TRBoy and MusicMike perform together, don't miss it. I could have listened to them for hours.

* Drivers in SC and NC pretty much obey the speed limit. What's up with that?

* Hopefully CrimsonLake will someday post the video of "Ice Cream Man", where a miscellaneous dude named Chris wandered up and assumed vocal duties. It was a scream.

I did want to share this pic, because it made me smile. We were playing Blue Hawaii (note that Nick is all business). L-R: Lanaki, TRBoy, CaptLovehandles, BluesSailor, NickyCrimson and BegginJM.

Later Mrs. Lanaki asked Randy if we had done any Hawaiian music. He told her "Blue Hawaii". FYI, BH does not count as Hawaiian music, and Mr. and Mrs. L treated us to the real thing.

if I remember correctly, Nick was making sure that his Dad was playing the right chord. That Nicky sure can play.

Great pics.
Calendar time is coming up. Keep em' safe somewhere.

Looks like a great place to set up & play.
Two questions...
1) Was it far from the parking lot? (hope not)
2) Did you draw a crowd from the other park visiters?

About 100 feet from the lot and bathroom facilities.

The part of the park that we were in is used for walking, walking the dog, and observing the river. Many people stopped by to visit and ask what was going on. Some sat a while, some danced ane one in particular:

stopped to sing a song with us. He was attracted by Nick playing the reaper song. It was really quite a treat for us and he said that it made the day for him. He also used to own an Ovation that his father had given him (I think). Regardless, it was great fun.

1)Parking lot was about 150 - 200 ft. away (That's my nice-n-CLEAN white Pick-em-up! ;) ) and the walking path you see in the foreground circled around us (The French Broad river is about 100 ft. directly behind us)

2)We had people that were walking the path, stop and listen a while.
Our groupies(see my gallery)went and got their lawn chairs and listened (and danced!) for a couple of hours.
I started toward the restrooms and a man and woman on bicycles stopped me and asked what the occasion was.....I told them about the OFC and invited them to come over a give a listen.....
We even had a guy (Chris) join us in a song! (watch for a video from CrimsonLake on YouTube!)
It was a fantastic location and just a beautiful day (maybe 85-88 degrees with a nice cool breeze coming from the river......Just Perfect! YSBT

Had it this way for about 12 years now. No barber in that time but I have run thru a few sets of cutters.

Just do like alot of us folically challenged due Jas, cut it off and grow a beard!

Next time, we have to do this for a weekend or a long weekend. It really wasn't enough time. I feel like I left a great (yeah, that word again) family reunion wanting more.

If anyone wants copies of my pics (a little over 300, lots of bad ones due to photographer) PM me with your address and I will burn a cd for you.

Guys, the pics are great. Wish I could have attended, also! :)

What a great location you had. How were the accoustics in there?

Glad to hear the event went well.

We need to do one of those up here. We could call it "Snowshoes and O's". :)

cruster: there are rumors of videos out there. i am not sure if all of the artist's release forms have been signed yet. :D

Music: as the low man on the talent totem pole, I can tell everyone why it all went so smooth. You guys (y'all) are great musicians.

Music, Lanaki, Trboy and the humble Capt_lovehandles can jam and sing. CrimsonLake, his son Nick and BluesSailor can hold there own too. They all were kind and patient with me, and they showed everyone the chords and a few tricks to alot of the songs. If I had teachers like these guys, I might become good enough to plugin some time.

Here is a pic at the end of the day. Notice the silly, boyish grins and one just plain silly (Tr)boy.

Your time will come Trboy...

Good morning everyone!

I got back last night from Asheville - 11 1/2 hours on the road. Nicky and I had a great time! This was the nicest bunch of people you could ever hope to meet. Everyone treated Nicky like gold - included him in everything, helped him out during the songs, encouraged him (especially BegginJM - just awesome). He will never forget this weekend.

As for his performance - I have now watched or heard it at least 100 times...oy! When he was asked if he wanted to play something, I was absolutely floored when he got up - grabbed MusicMishka's T-bolt and went right into Don't Fear The Reaper. It was the best he ever played it.

Thanks to Randy for making my 47RI absolutely sing. Now I know what it should sound like. Thanks to Jas (Captain Lovehandles) for putting those binders together - they really helped alot - and are a great souvenier. Everyone signed everyone else's binders. Thanks to Mishka for bringing and setting up the PA system - everything worked like a charm! Thanks to BegginJM and Randy for picking out and securing the location - it was absolutely perfect. Thank God for the beautiful weather and for responding to Randy's request for a voice by sending in Chris (the guy that stepped in to sing Ice Cream Man). Thanks to Brad (BluesSailor) for the opportunity to purchase the Tak '98 LTD. Thanks to TRBoy for his fantastic playing and for just being there!

All in all - it was a long trip which I would do again in a minute.

I will post pics as soon as I can - I've been trying to upload them but there seems to be a problem with the site.

I will post the video's to YouTube when I figure out how to rip them off of the DVD back into a format I can post (any suggestions?).

Thanks again - it's people and events like this that make this site what it is.

I have three older brothers that would (and still do) play a few photo tricks on me.

Thinning hair was 20 years ago. Now, what hair is left is hanging on to the last root.

Photoshop (hehe) wonder what Trboy would look like with no hair..Jas, care to help with this one?

MORE pics to come (hehe)...

Oh yeah - one more thanks to Woody for the Papoose. It definitely came in handy on this trip. Nicky spent hours playing with it in the car coming and going to the jam. He also learned alot about transposing chords :)

I don't know if you noticed, but the Papoose was the only non-ovation guitar allowed in the group guitar photo - all of the Taks, Taylors and Epiphones were removed prior to the shot. We all agreed however that since this was lovingly customized by a fellow OFC member, that it deserved a place in the shot. You da man!

Here is a very low quality video I stuck together from my li'l camera. I uploaded it a better one, but it's been processing for almost 24 hours. (?)

But you can catch Nick, not fearing any reapers.

All in all - it was a long trip which I would do again in a minute.

Thanks again - it's people and events like this that make this site what it is.
CL, let me speak fo all of us if I may, when I say how wonderful it was to look at you as you watched your son playing guitar with all of us...He's a great fella and I know that you're proud of him...and you're right, that is what makes all of this worthwhile...just now my daughter (4 and a half now) looked at the YouTube video and said "Daddy, that boy is playing your snake guitar..." I am amazed at how much she knows about the Ovations (her's is the 82C) and again, thats what makes all of this so wonderful...with all of the negative influence available to them, getting them interested in playing music and appreciating nice instruments...well its just fine and a real blessing! Nicky, I'm proud to have been jammin with ya, young dude! Keep it up!
Miss you guys....let's do it again soon!
Blessings...

Also, in the same vein, Randy's wife has a beautiful voice and watching her and their two young children as they watched and joined Randy singing and playing was a joy;(btw Randy: I so enjoyed having you join in on "3 going on 23"...I can hardly wait to see the video..Thanks to you and everyone for making that happen...). Brad: glad to hear from ya. I was afraid that tha hills gotcha on the way home. I hope that you and your family are doing well. It was great to meet you. We may need to get a carpool together for the Florida gettogether in the fall. I know of someone who lives in the SE Hotlanta area ;) , might be a good starting point!

Music: my part was simple, you lugging in all of your equipment was hard. My camera takes good pictures, all I have to do is push the button.

Can't wait for the next one!

Something to keep in mind about the video... Randy, who has a fine singing voice, found out 10 seconds into the first song of the day that his voice was gone, and it stayed gone all day. That didn't stop him from croaking out songs for us.

Randy, I didn't use most of what I had to spare you the shame. What little singing that's on the video, you can blame on Mishka. I didn't use "Right or Wrong", because then you'd have to blame it on me. :)

Seriously, without Randy to act as ring leader, it would not have been nearly so much fun. The part where he's teaching the chords is vintage Lanaki. He was constantly saying "For this song, you need to learn this lick...". And I'd say "You play the lick, I'm doing well to get the chord right."

An energetic cat who's lots of fun.

Yep, that's Randy. Never stopped. I think a name change may be in order.

How about: The Hawaiian Cat former known as Lanaki :p

Ideas? ;)

Nice editing on the video Jas. Many thanks for not showing me sing, seriously.

I'm still working on the video... what a royal pita! Captain - what software are you using to decode/rip/edit the video? I'm starting out with DVD images from my camcorder. I'm using DVD Decoder to copy the image to my harddrive and DVD Copy to rip it to a usable filetype. For some reason, DVD Copy can't deal with the video image directly off of the disc, even though it's not copy protected.

What format did you convert to to put it on YouTube? Does it have to be compressed?

Thanks!

Mike

Oh yeah - I was definitely remiss in not mentioning Randy's wife and how beautiful she sang.

Well, if you've been paying attention to the Mac commercials on TV, you know that Macs come loaded with itunes, imovie, idvd, and i everything else. I just imported the AVI files from my camera into imovie, cut out the unwanted parts, and added transitions and a title, then exported as an mpeg-4.

And a great showman! I cracked up when we were singing "Bad,bad,Leroy Brown" and we got to the part where "He cast his eyes upon her......."
and Randy acted out throwing his eyes across the room......totally caught me off guard :D

Capt'n L's a bit of a showman too.....He jumped right in and sang lead on quite a few songs! He does a great Willie Nelson and Elvis!

And of course.....MusicMike is an outstanding performer and musician who wowed us with all his wonderful original songs and touched everyone's heart strings with "3 going on 33".....Thanks Mike.

I tried to hang back (read "hide back")with the great smooth and steady rhythm playing of Bluesailor,BegginJM,CrimsonLake, and Nicky but for some reason they keep trying to handoff the lead to ME! ....which I quickly fumbled! :o  ....but I had a great time trying and I'm ready for the next one.....(ready to GO to the next one - not take the LEAD...)

This was a united effort and everybody contributed: Brad, thanks for the great conversation, your beautiful guitars and sharing your son with us for a day; Jas, thanks for the music books (great graphics!) and making copies for us all...class!...BTW your Willie Nelson impression was priceless!; TRB, thanks for the mandolin picking and the guitar work and for the smiles that never left your face the whole day...; Randy, what can I say...you are a gentleman and a fine picker...thanks for making my 87C sound so great and letting me hear it from in front for a change (a real treat) and for your family and the chance to hear you and your wife sing together; BluesSailor for bringing such nice guitars and for helping me find the way out of Ashville (ok, so I got a little displaced...took a wrong turn...had no idea...OK, OK, I GOT LOST...COMING IN) and for making our get together the better for your being part of it; and for the spouses in attendance or not (mine for taking care of our kids so I could go and play with friends...); along wit all the others I have previously mentioned i can't thank everyone enough! BTW, DID I MENTION WE HAD A REALLY FANTASTIC TIME?

I have 3 extras. I'm putting Weaser down for one, so pm me your address. I can send you the complete book, or just the pages you want, if you prefer. No, they're not for sale. They're free.

It's stuff I got from tab sites, and some that Lanaki emailed me, and some I typed up myself. You know how tab sites are... some songs will have wrong chords, and wrong lyrics. But Lanaki and I tried to iron most of that out prior to the jam.

Jim, anything I have is yours.

Just a thought Mike but, after shaving the head, consider growing the mustache longer and doing a comb-over.

Well... I still can't get YouTube working, so here is a link to Ice Cream Man:

Ice Cream Man

Performed by Captain Lovehandles, MusicMishka, Lanaki and Big Chris.

It's a large file, so it may take a while to load.

Uncle Fester's twin brother by another mother.

Actually only 7 OFC Members at the Jam. Out of respect, we have tried to keep it to one thread though. There still might be a little fun to git out of yet.

Then we can start a new thread for the 2nd ANNUAL Southern Style Jamboree!!! :D

Captain - no problem! I've wasted enough time on it. Actually I'm going to remove it from my link so I can upload the other vids - Mishka's song and Nicky. I only have 25mb of space on my account. If you wouldn't mind doing the same thing with these and putting them on YouTube, I would appreciate it.

You two guys ROCK! That is a great song. Never heard it before, so what's the story on it.

Each set of pics or video makes me wish I could have attended. Great friendships blossom from such events. You were all certainly blessed.

At some point, I will combine my two camcorder mini dvds into one full size dvd and send out copies if you guys like. This way you'll have the originals with no degradation.

Mike - look a little further down and check out Jas's YouTube page. If it shows as outdated on my link then it's already up on his page. I have a limited amount of storage space - so as soon as he puts it on YouTube, I delete it from my online storage.

Sorry Capt. it has been a very busy work week for me. I fell asleep quite early last night. I see that you fell asleep and woke up by your computer though. I have it on good authority that can cause hair loss.

My videos are just a repeat of those already posted. I try to stay BEHIND the camera at all times while filming. I prefer the Alfred Hitchcock method of brief, barely noticable appearances, or just none at all.

Great work to Crimson and Captain on the vid postings.

hey Guys,

I've been pretty silent the past week. Busier that H3ll at work and trying to get ready to go on 2 weeks vacation.

I want to chime in and say how much I enjoyed the get together last week. I havn't watched the videos yet, but for those that have you can tell that it was a memorable event and something that I hope to do again. What a great group of guys and talent. You may have noted you didn't see too many vids of me playing and there is a reason for that. But I'll get there. It was great to get out and play with others. I saw a comment on my great rhythms, take note that was on the shakers, not the guitar. Maybe next year. I learned a tremendous amount, improved a whole bunch in just one outing, and had a wonderful experience in the process.

That's all the time I have right now. Gotta go. I'll be w/o a computer for the next two weeks.

I'll have a lot of catching up to do.

See ya later gators!

Crim, I wasn't calling you dumb, by the way. I assumed it was my mistake. Turns out it was OUR mistake. So really you're only half as dumb as I thought I was, and together we're half as smart as Mishka. Unless my math is wrong.

Hey Jas, thanks a lot for the Official Songbook! Nice job! I got a big smile when I saw that everybody signed it. Now I can learn the songs for the next one.

I've had a great time just watching the all videos. Everything was great. I especially liked 3 going on 23.

Got the new cover today Captain..she's a real beaut! Thanks again for everything friend.

Blues, glad I had a brother there that learned as much as I did. I will keep practicing for next year, and maybe, just maybe, be able to go on film doing something musically related. There still is nothing I can do about my camera breaking good looks.

Ok, so just go on vacation...what is that anyway? Hey Jas, when you get back: I received the new cover for the songbook...very cool! Thanks very much! Wel, I'm off to enjoy another day as Mr. Mom...SWMBO is working all week on 3rd shift so I've got the baby at night for this week...Pray for me, please....lol...Naw, actually, I love it...the little Mishka is doing great and should be holding a guitar by the end of the year...LOL Well, would you believe in several years??
BTW, FALL JAM sounds great....where and when? Why not here...Seriously! WE'd have a blast! Think about it...we have room for tent camping here if you're brave and bathroom/showers here at the house. There is a diner and rooms just down the road and I have a large back deck with a gas grill...details can be worked out! and the scenery here is to die for! MOUNTAIN JAM ANYONE?
Blessings...

Ok, this thread is FINALLY coming to an end. I would like to say, (one more time). that Lanaki's presence at the Jam was simply incredible, noteworthy, memoriable, etc. This does not take away from the rest of the attendees (Y'all were all simply GREAT too).

Now that (I THINK) he has arrived back to the islands, after a two and a half week visit to the mainland, I want to personally thank him for his direction and support and (kicks in the ass, when needed) that got the Southern Style Jam off the ground and into the books.

Next year we may have to have the TOUR and SOUTHERN Jam in two consecutive weeks so that Randy can attend both.

All that agree say yeaaahh!

Jim

my dear friend, "blingy" jim,

you and i both know that the ofc southern jam would not have happened without your perseverance, dedication and diplomacy.
you are an excellent fellow with a generous heart and i count it a blessing to name you as a good friend. let me also say "mahalo" for the "ono grinds" (good food) that you and your sweet wife shared with my family.

to trboy and wife, crimsonlake, nicky, bluessailor, music mike, and captain lovehandles: a grand 'mahalo" for a wonderful time! the videos will never capture the deeper level of what this was all about and what we shared as sojourners on the blue orb. let's do it again.

i'm home on big island and slowly unwinding.

Wease, did I ever send you that book? If not, I'm sorry, but see the post under FLA Jam for a link to the PDF.
