So, i'm opening the house up again for a gathering on July 14th. dvd and i have been in contact and i will be coordinating the logistics.
Drop me a PM if you can make it. I will develop details as it becomes clear how many folks plan on attending.

I am marking July 14 on the calendar to see the reaction it gets.... |

Of course its an OFC gathering! If we start requiring rules and definitions it ain't gonna be fun any more!
Pick where you're planted!
Greg's is a great idea. I'll see what my Wife thinks about a junkett. I was considering hosting one on July 7th (me and Woz's birthdays) but I'll be in a wedding instead. Still get cake... |

This assumes I will drive over in the Boxster with a guitar in the passenger seat instead of my wife. I could bring an Ultra GS or 2 in the back trunk, but can't fit any acoustic Ovations in the trunk. |

We finally got out of the minivan phase. Actually, we had 4 VW campers before we had the Honda Odyssey. Traded that on a Pilot. The Pilot is not as practical, but I don't feel as bad about driving the same vehicle that 3 other people have at the same intersection.
I will probably be in Portland for a wedding on June 23 and don't want to go back 3 weeks later unless I make it into a somewhat enjoyable trip.
Last year when we did this it was the 3rd weekend in a row that I was in Portland. That's too much for someone who doesn't live there.
If I have the OFC guitar by then, I'll bring it, unless someone else brings one. |

We had a good time last year, but I'm sure you'll all manage to have some level of fun without me. Should raise the average skill level, if nothing else.

Interesting dilemma, I'm seriously considering the 1112, with all the cracks.
It's a POS, but it do sound nice.
Then I have to think of a song that I can play all the way through...
Knockin' on Heaven's Door? (naw)
Where Do The Children Play? (that's better)
Be the most inspiration to practice that I've had.

I think the rehearsal is off Helvetia road, so the Helvetia Tavern might be really close. There isn't much "out in the sticks" anymore. My relatives have lived in Hillsboro since the early 70s when it was a farm town of 15,000. I think it's up to about 85,000 now and intersects with a bunch of other little towns. |

Closer in I've heard the Raccoon Lodge is good, and Laurelwood in NW is definitely a winner.
We can bottom out on something when the time gets closer.. weather and event calendars may offer some suggestions. ;)

I'll be in Vancouver for farmer's market until 4, but I'd have to have my brother drive a second car and drive himself back, which means that I'd have to drive the cargo van back later and deal with the odds and ends leftovers by myself...adds a couple hours AFTER I get back to Oly from there, which is already about a two hour drive.

Location: Chehalis, Washington | Actually, the market has both...right down from our booth is a covered 20x10 area that they use for a lot of small shows (there's a bluegrass band that plays a lot). You could contact the market and see if they've got something scheduled this week or not. The manager's name is Robert, and you can get him through the website at www.vancouverfarmersmarket.com .
The market actually runs from 9:00 to 3:00, and we usually get packed down between 3:30 and 4. If it was just me, I'd come down in a heartbeat (provided I could stash a couple guitars in there somewhere), but my brother wouldn't be in to it, and I know I'd never convince him to go "hang out" in Portland for the evening...
Let me yak and him tomorrow and see what I can come up with. |

I am new to the Fan Club and recently purchased my first Ovation--a used 1970's Breadwinner solid-body electric that I found about a month ago on Craig's List:
http://eugene.craigslist.org/msg/354850695.html
(I hope the link still works).
I absolutely love the guitar and its distinctive sound! Through the OFN site I learned about customer serviceperson extraordinaire John Budny, and I was able to purchase NOS replacements for this guitar's damaged and missing parts--amazing!
Are solid-body electrics welcome at the PNW mini or is it just for acoustic instruments? If the Breadwinner is welcome, maybe I'll try to finish putting the guitar back together on Friday night and drive up from Eugene to Portland on Saturday.
Any advice would be appreciated and thanks to the OFC for all the help you've provided already! |

Welcome to the club, by the way.
I'll be taking delivery of a hand-built breadwinner of sorts myself at the party. I'll also be bringing my Eclipse, which is a pre-breadwinner Ovation hollowbody electric. Greg has some solidbody electrics that will be there as well and there will be amps, too. Your BW will fit right in, even if it's in pieces!

Was the Eclipse a 335 style double cutaway? If so, I think I played one at a music store in Boston in 1971--but I could be wrong. The instrument I played was set up to demo the Hammond Condor guitar effects box (an early and ill-fated guitar synth) that Zappa played on Chunga's Revenge. |

The Eclipses were Thunderheads with unattractive grain on the bodies, so they sprayed them with the black polane textured bowl paint and sold them cheap....

I'm going to have to pass, guys. I'd love to go, but logistically this just isn't going to work this time. Kind of sucks to be so close anyway and not attend, but oh well. Amy's having a tough time as it is with 3 kids 3 and under, so it would be good for me to get home earlier rather than later anyway.
That said, I will be at market all day...anyone coming by there wanting me to bring something to play? I could always throw the Koa 12 in the van... ;) |

2 1/2 days camping, listening to music, even playing some. (This year was particularly good listening, so there was less playing than normal)
PLUS, you get a good comfortable visit in and share good times. Nothing rushed. I come back feeling like I've had a week off. (of course, I can't hear the all-night revelers. Combination of earplugs and sleeping the sleep of the innocent....can't remember where I stole it.) |

PS - Give Seesquare first dibs on the packing materials - I ran out of pizza boxes. |

Location: Pacific Northwest Inland Empire | More like "The most senile & organic to purloin the packing materials"! I had to jet out of the festivities, and forgot to take the cedar top-pieces (heck, Greg handed me my cooler- almost forgot it, too!). S'OK.....I have a couple of cedar sets here, but it would have lent some interesting history & anecdote to a BFLG project.
Actually, it was a good outing. DVD, tdeej, gh1, OMA, & me. SWMBO was disappointed we didn't produce more musical noise. Apparently, all the "scratching" we did was NOT on the guitars.
The parcel did arrive, and we all fondled the critter. It appeared to function flawlessly!
Affected a small repair to DVD's Eclipse. Bamboo splinters in small orifices- not for the faint-of-heart. Actually, it was real easy.
Had a brief discussion with gh1, about the next PNW-OFC Gathering. Maybe Spring '08, in YakiVegas? I have the room- 35 X 12 covered patio, large back yard, plenty of parking (sorry, Greg!), and easy access. Generally centralized, at least for the Washington-Idaho contingent. 2 1/2 hours from Seattle, 3 from Portland, 3 1/4 from Spokane.
I have volunteered The Spousal Unit for extracurricular activities, for non-rabid, albeit supportive, partners.
Anyrate, it was a good time, and we need to keep it going. And, I learned there is noise to be made, beyond the 5th fret!! Gotta tweak some fretwires, I guess. |

Location: Central Massachusetts | Yes it was great fun. Not sure what happened to the kindling once we realized that Chris had left it behind.
Thanks Chris for the quick fixit. Thanks to Greg and Sheri for the great hospitality once again. And thanks to all for the great conversation. I suspect the Ovations were actually eeked out by other brands this time.. many flavors of ice-cream!
Speaking of sweets, I popped in on Andrew at the farmers market on the way over.. said hi and picked up some delicious sweet breads that were enjoyed by all.
Didn't get a chance to put the Bigsby on the Eclipse, I'll do that on my own.
And MWoody, thanks for the great beastie.. it's everything I was hoping for. Loved the DVD TRC. We all admired the aesthetics and craftsmanship. pics to be posted soon. |

My response? "I gotta get me one of these!"
We didn't get any neighborhood-rousing-jams going, but we did pass around a bunch of guitars and eat some good grub!
[Let's keep our Priorities straight!]
As for me, I thought about bringing my 1112 Beater, cuz it is Loud. But then I decided to play what others brought, which was much more fun.
I did bring my 1115 for some expert advice...
All-in-All, we had some good fellowship (and sister-ship).
I gotta get out more often. I look forward to our next Gathering. |

This my Friends is the biggest reason that Al and Miles have proselytized (take that Chris!) us so that we can further spread the virus known as Ovation GAS...
The soundboard packing materials were actually Sitka Spruce but had some issues and didn't match. Would have made some great coasters though!
Would have loved to be there, kinda felt I was in a way but meeting-greeting and coveting your guitars is the best part!
I may be brave enough for an August invite if I finish the deck, redo the bedroom, fix the sewer... |

Location: PDX | Thanks for making the trip folks! It was a casual affair, more conversation than music, but a lot of cool guitars.
My two favorites were Tim's two 00's. A Tacoma all koa custom built (with a great history) and his Martin 00-16C. The Tacoma had stellar tone and, to my ear, raised above the Martin by a decent margin.
The other guitar which i really liked was Chris' beat to heck Josh White. That guitar had mojo to spare!
Arthur's 12 string had the truss rod bursting through the back of the neck -- it was such a sad sight, and not much could be done about it.
Dave brought his Eclipse, and received his MWoody special. Nice guitars, but not enough to get me to give up my Swan.
Chris, PM me your address and i'll get the spruce in the mail for you.
Dave left with a very cool new guitar!
Cheers all! |

Location: Pacific Northwest Inland Empire | Yeah, definitely the last one. Although, an apt metaphor for my dexterity- "Is that guitar buzzing, or is that your technique?"
Hmmmmmmmm.......thanks, Greg.
Spruce? Really? I'm fired! I was sadly mistaken, then. Shoulda given it a good sniff, I suppose.
OK, back into the bowels of the lab......... |
