Location: South of most, North of few | I am in the process of selling my drums, and totally committing to the guitar. (calm down everyone) I am currently playing through a Behringer keyboard amp that has 300 watts and a 15" woofer, which really sounds bad with a guitar plugged into it. (it was used with the electronic drums) What is the recommendation for a nice (not outrageous price) amp mostly for home and maybe if anyone would ask, to play out. I'm not looking for anything really high powered, but I've found through my life, that you buy the best first, it's cheaper in the long run. I really don't want to break the 300 dollar barrier by too much, so if anyone has any recommendations, please help a former drummer, now full time guitarist. BTW, I only have acoustic/ electric, no solid body guitars, and thanks for putting up with my novice questions... :D |

...Thanks for putting up with my novice questions... :D I must agree, since I have four practice amps.
But one will run on 9v battery, which is nice.
(Of course that one came sorta free with the phony-Strat.)
I do like my Hughes & Kettner Edition Blue 15-R.
Two of the others wouldn't be worth selling, really not worth the postage. One day I will pass them on to the needy.
But I concur with the concept of, If you buy the Best you won't regret it. |

i think used one should go for less than 350$... in Poland new one costs around 400$.
Good but not superb tone.
It produces better tone than my 60W Hughes&Kettner Edition 1, |

| I played jW's shen jnr and that is a sweet amp - sounds way more expensive than it is and the eq is very powerful and the effects good. You wouldn't go wrong.

Location: South of most, North of few | The 60 is a stereo amp with two 6" speakers while the Jr. has a mono amp with a 10" speaker. Now, does the 60 push both speakers on either channel or do you end up with only 1 6" at 30w if you are using mono mode? Also, what is the advantage,if any, of a stereo guitar amp? |

Location: Budd Lake, NJ | Robbie "Worshipleader" helped me get my Shen Jr on-line for about $330; that was last year, and maybe it's a little higher now. Unfortunately, I can't remember where it was ordered from (thank you, middle age.) I had toted his larger Genz on retreat the year before and needed something lighter.
I don't know anything about the advantages of input, output, one speaker, two speakers (being severely electronically-challenged)--but in a fairly good-sized conference room with eighty women singing their hearts out, no problem.

Willard-
Have you A/B'd the Jr and the 60? I was just looking at the 60 (online), but if it sounds bad... The 100 is interesting, but I don't know what I need another amp for. :o |

Again , this is a relist, I've been watching these things for a while. Shen 60 in my town has just failed to sell on its third list - I'm still waiting for the price to come down. Or maybe I'll just buy one in the US (60s and 100s are 110/240 volt compatible) |

For acoustic/electrics, I have the Genz Jr, two Acoustasonic Jrs with DSP, and a Trace Eliott TA100R. All have an XLR out (for the house board) which is mandatory for me because I use the amp as a monitor. I hate carrying around amps so I place them out at the locations I play. Prevents damage to the arms and the amps. |

There are entirely too many guitar players in this world and not near enough good percussionists.

YMMV That is true Phil. Anybody that can grab a stick seems to think they can play drums, and many actually get paid for it. I have been playing them for some 40 years or so now, including concert tympani in my earlier years, and am getting sick of lugging the kit around. I'm always the first there and the last to leave. Guitar is much easier to transport and set up. I still play at church now and then, I just use opd. (other people's drums) :D |

Funny you should mention, I had one of those Yamaha mini sets for practice at the church so I wouldn't have to lug the set there. It sounded rather cheesy until you plug it into a big keyboard amp. Then it sounded pretty good. |

Have you lost weight? Your arm looks skinnier than I remember it. Love the 4H ribbon...won't ask what you won it for. ;) A friend of mine who attended MSU (used to be called the "Agricultural College of the State of Michigan") once told me that "animal husbandry" meant you had to run 'round front to kiss 'em. Not sure, really, what that meant. |
