on july 10, shirley was awarded a check for $1000 from zonta international, a club that promotes women in scholastics and business. she was chosen for the award because of her high academic scores coupled with handling a full-time job and being a mom. this photo and full story are circulating in this week's hilo paper:
(check out the koa wood podium on the right!) |

mahalo!
i think what went around when she bought me the 1688 is now coming back around to her. her name has been submitted for the zonta national award which is 5X this amount. i am jonesin' for a collings cj or a mcpherson so my selfish fingers are crossed... :D |

A podium is something you stand ON.
A lectern is something you stand AT.

By the way, he already has more guitars than he can play at one time. Treat yourself to something that you want.

Actually, it should read,
A lectern is something at which you stand.
A podium is something on which you stand.
Be gramatically correct.
Jeez Randy, she's a whole lot prettier than you. |

shirley is grateful for all the congrats, guys. and i thank you too!
the money is earmarked for next semester's tuition so we can't "spend" it anyway. it sure helped ease the strain of tryin' to come up with enough funds for her to continue college this year.
and speakin' of bidets...my wife's co-worker, nicole, just returned from a hula show in japan. she was telling my wife about the bidet in her hotel room. there are buttons next to the commode that control the amount of pressure the bidet squirts out. nicole wanted to watch how it worked so she was standing over the commode and pushed one of the buttons. the water shot out with such force it got her soaked and she screamed. the water continued squirting out the bathroom door and all the way across the room into the open closet, getting her hanging clothes all wet too. her sister was in the next room and came running to check. nicole frantically opened the door and her sister stood in amazement watching the fountain. i guess it finally occurred to nicole how to shut the water off. they both enjoyed hysterical belly laughs for an hour or so after... |

guitarsoffire.com i have not yet had opportunity to play one. with all the endorsements i have seen and heard and from listening to the free cd that mcpherson sends out, i am sure i would really enjoy one of their guitars. they do show up on eBay from time to time, from $4300 on up. |

Get a CJ, forget the McPherson. They are interesting but not all that great. They also will be alot harder to get your money out of if you ever decided to. I've got a CJ-41braz,s/b and it's wonderful. I can suggest some good dealers when you're that ready. |

You could try looking at Cotten Music, The Music Emporium(mass), Elderly, Mass St, Carmel Music, Quincy's. If that fails go to the Collings site and run through their dealer list. That's where I found Quincy's with the 17" archtop. |
