Location: SoCal | I was thinking about my guitars today (trying to avoid thinking about work and bills) and realized that I have very few standard production models. Of the few that are or were standard production models, either few were made or they've been tweaked a bit.
Just looking at my walls and stands, here's what I see
OFC slothead -- 12 made
Original Adamas I -- production buy not many out there
1537 -- again a production model but highly coveted and out of production for a long time
87 Collectors -- non production
FD14 - 50 built
1627 RI -- special edition model
Glen Campbell Deluxe Balladeer -- about 50 built
1773LX -- tweaked with a gloss neck and abalone
Guitar Formerly Known as Viper -- we won't even go there
GC 12 string -- whole new body on a 69 neck
1117 Legend -- totally stock, totally crap sound
No regular Legends, Elites, Balladeers, etc. Anybody else find themselves in this spot (pretty damned good spot to be in)? |

I got to thinking and not too many of my Ovations are stock either except for a UK2, a deacon 12, and nylon viper. I guess you could call the slotheads and #220 stock. So there's 7 out of 34. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | I'm not sure what I got anymore. Even the stock ones I usually gut out the electronics and have the necks glossed. I guess my OM42 is stock, there's thousands of them out there, and it's pretty much my favorite guitar these days. Being rare doesn't necessarily make it better. But I do enjoy having stuff you might now see every day. CW28 there's only 8 sunburst ones, a half dozen U681-12's, 2-3 ssb no cut A1's. I think the Tak75 and 47RI are about 85 or so each. I used to be more hung up more on stuff like this. Dave |

Location: Boise, Idaho | My Classic and Folklore are among my favorites and they are production models. Maybed it's because they are minty mint. I've got a mix of standards and collector's. I tried to go for variety (except for the fact that they're all Ovations). |

Location: Munich, Germany | Sooner or later - if you are more the collector than the player (in a professional meaning) - you have to decide which way you want to go.
Today, except for two Custom Legends and one Custom Elite, that I have leaned to a friend on an unlimited base, my collector's series models are the only ones that have been built more than a hundred or two hundred pieces of.

Location: Texas | Due to reasons beyond my control - I can't really play that well anymore so I collect and hope that I make the right choices for future investments.
I have three Nagy's (electrics) that are one of a kind, hand made and starting to make a name for themselves.
One Langcaster (electric)from New Zealand that is made of 35,000 year old Karui wood - incredible guitar!!!!
A 52 Reissue Tele that I had a leather tooled body cover made for it (Waylon Jennings did this back in the 80's) and some silver carved "bling" for the pickguard, switch plate and ashtray cover. IMHO Tele's are the ugliest guitars in the world but this one is a show stopper
Jersy girl - hand made - no two are alike and you will never see one on ebay.
Now I have switced to the Adamas
Adamas MEII - sweetest 12 string I have ever heard and now I have two Adamas 47's on the way.
Bad thing about collecting - you can't really have that much fun - you don't want to damage those puppies.
It is just my passion and my downfall - credit card companies love me but I get that warm fuzzy when I see them hanging on the wall or in their own display case. What can I say...I am addicted to beautiful guitars. |
