Location: SE Michigan | Probably most great rockers started out with some form of garage band.
When we were foolish teenagers we thought; "anyone can make it in rock and roll". "Get a second hand guitar chances are you'll go far". Any-old group of hacks in a suburban garage can be rock stars...yeah right.
Years of experience and observation have shown me that nearly without exception those who made it big in the music business were usually hugely talented and the very best of the very best.
It's kinda like playing in NBA. You can buy the finest basketball and practice your ass off, but unless you are north of say 6 and a half feet it just aint gonna happen. |

Location: Campbell River, British Columbia | You don't have to be the greatest talent in the world, or the right size to make it. (Bryan Adams and Wayne Gretsky for examples.)
But you DO have to show up and put in the work.
and never, never, never quit.
Brian Plummer is my hero in this regard. And all the other road warriors who still crank it out... okay, maybe they have no other job skills and are otherwise unemployable. But they pursued their own dream better than most of us. |

Their "Claim-to-Fame" was that they played every High School Auditorium in Massachusetts!
[I think that one is more for the New England Folks.
They're big in some circles] J. Geils |

Location: Riverside, CA | I grew up in Fullerton, CA (O.C.). I'm not sure how many played in a garage there, but some of the better bands from the area were -
pre-1978: Chantays, Honk, Jackson Browne, Dick Dale, Jose Feliciano (moved to Newport in the late 60's and recorded "Light My Fire" while a resident) and The Righteous Brothers.
post-1978 (the more successful bands at this time were spawned from the punk movement): The Adolescents, Social Distortion, T.S.O.L., Agent Orange, The Vandals, et. al.
FYI - Eddie Cochran never lived in Orange County, but he's buried there, as his family lived in Buena Park. |

Location: CT | Led Zeppelin wasn't a garage band. Page was a successful studio musician who joined the Yardbirds after Clapton left. After some tours and member changes, he changed the name to Zep.. Not much garage playin there. |
