Location: Scotland | Yep, been there, done that. Bought a half-assed 1117 Dobro conversion on Ebay, and fixed it so it works properly. Check my gallery for pics. It can be done, but as Seesquare says, it's not easy. I would only attempt it with something trashed, not with a servicable guitar. The geometry of the guitar is crucial. If the neck set is shallow you'll only be able to play it lap-style. There's plenty affordable resos on the market, sell the CP2002 and buy one of those instead. |

Location: Tychy, Poland | i don't know what do you mean by shallow neck.
it's very thin (about 38mm nut width) and i don't have any experience with dobro.
i just want to give it a try.
i think i'll make some mayor changes in my guitar collection in august-september, and dobro is on my wish list.
I think the only guitar which will last is my Legend. i don't want to spend more than $3000 on all - and i want to buy Godin LGX electric, new acoustic amp, multieffect (probably Line6 PodXT), electro-classical guitar, resonator and 12-stringer, if funds will allow me to do this.
and yeah, i want dobro just for fun. |

Not shallow neck, shallow "neck set". Neck set refers to the angle at which the neck joins the body. |

You do realize that guitars aren't worth as much after you screw them up?
Like Bill sez, you might wanna just sell what you don't want (instead of destroying it), and buy a National Dobro, if that's what you want... |

Both are brand names...
Dobro is not a generic term for a resonator...
[sheesh  ]
So, Get a National, or a Dobro... |

Awhile ago, I'd gotten a ChaiKnees-made "dobro" from Al for a REALLY good price!! I "jacked-up" the action for lap-playing with the Pearse steel that MasterTempleman left me with (along w/some quick lessons). One of the local shops around me have the exact guitar ('cepting it's square-neck) for sale. You could probably get one of these (and a Quarterman cone t'throw in it) for just a little more than the proceeds from the Ovation sale . . . |

Location: Tychy, Poland | ok. so i'll follow advices and i'll just get rid of this guitar among others and look for resonator. I've heard that resonators made in Czech Republic are good and not so expensive, so maybe i'll get one. |

Location: Scotland | The Czech Republic was the first to produce affordable steel-bodied resonators, long before the Chinese got into it. Some of the Czech stuff is superb. Amistar and Lebeda both produce excellent instruments in the National and Dobro styles. Interesting that the Dopeyras who invented the resonator guitar back in the 1920's were Czech immigrants. |
