Enjoy the new rig. That's a real nice one. Shoot me your mailing address and I can send you a case emblem. I've got a whole pile of thm somewhere.

Location: Hicksville, NY | Wagons are cool! IMO [depending on the make of the car] they even tend to be sportier looking than their sedan type siblings. There are two cars in my household, and one of them is a Subaru Impreza wagon that dates back to my college days. It has/had hauled my guitars for years, without any problems. I'll admit that the car had its share of maintenance and body repairs in the 14 years that I owned it -- but performance wise -- it never broke down on me [not even once!], and it always pass the state inspection with flying colors every year. The most recent inspection took place just 3 days ago. Might I add that this car loves the snow, that it was [and still is] the only vehicle that manages to get out of the driveway during extremely bad winter conditions.
Before the Subaru, I once drove a Colt Vista wagon. I think it's a Mitsubishi-manufactured car with Chrysler badges on it. I loved the looks and the amount of room it had, but it kept on breaking down on me, that I traded it in for the Subaru three years later. This year, my wife and I decided that the time has come to retire the Impreza, so we are currently looking at dealer lots for deals. Most likely, because of the good luck I had with this tiny wagon that runs on a puny 1.8 liter, 4 cyl. engine, I just might get another Subaru ... perhaps the Forester?? |

Location: SoCal | We've had a Toyota Camry wagon in the family for the last 12 years. My wife drove it for 11 and I've had it for the last year. It's a great car. Now, I'm about to downsize but to another wagon, a Mazda 3 5 door, and my kids will get to use the Camry. Wagons are great.
From the mid 90's to just a couple of years ago, nobody made a wagon (or would admit to it). The choices were either SUV's or minivans. Now wagons are back with a vengence but they're called cross over vehicles or sport wagons, not station wagons. I don't care what they call them.... |

I'm just selling our Santa Fe - going to be wierd not having an SUV or 4wd for a while. I'm still driving my 10-year-old Sable, which I can cram 8 guitars in cases into. Talk about space conservation! |

A TRUE Station Wagon should have a long-enough cargo area so that you can flip-down the rear seat and fit a twin-sized mattress in there.
Then you can live it the sucker.
At bedtime, you just throw all the your crap in the front seat, turn-on the camp TV, and grab a beer from the cooler. And make yourself at home in K-mart's parking lot!

Glenn, those Volvos are really sweet. I've driven a recent 300-hp V70R with AWD and six-speed manual. Standard equipment should include a radar detector .. you're gonna need it. |

[But how fast do you really need to go in Portland?]
That is a fine Rock-n-Roller's ride.
But I'm not sure if you can camp-out in it. And it has NO camouflage-value.
It turns-heads where-ever it goes!
[And it might have been Dr. Z's idea...]
I do like that Volvo, but I ride the bus. |

After 7 hours on mine I don't feel that much different than 7 hours in a car, unless the weather is bad. |

Location: Reading, PA | That car rocks. I dig the Volans. We had a 2004 V70R for a weekend but decided to return it. It was too much car for the Mrs to use as a daily driver. 300hp with 40 series tires.... no way. We settled on an '05 XC70 and the woman loves it.

| Tupperware! Thanks for the emblem. we took possession of the car and pulled a carfax on it before we went down to pick it up... apparently somewhere between 142000 in may of last year and the current read of 153140 which was recorded may of this year.. the odometer and trip meter stopped working.. the electronic readout still works as does the speedo.. actual mileage on the car is 158000.. so it is down at the Volvo dealership in Vero Beach having a very tiny gear replaced in the speedo.. which involves tearing out the whole front dash to fix..apparently a VERY COMMON problem with these... the dealer took another 300 off the purchase price, and is splitting the repair with us. so will have less than 3k in it.
I'm happy.
it is very fast... scary fast for a wagon. the turbo lays you back nice.

We had the sedan. Great car. I love Volvos.
Just a few things learned along along the way.
The coolant recovery tanks would develop a leak along one of the seams. The tank was under preasure. The manual mentioned to check under the hood when you filled up with gas... so if you noticed the level going down, it was not a big deal. You'd figure out you needed a new plastic tank... a relatively cheap do-it-your-self part. If you miss it and let the recovery tank go dry, the next thing you'll know is that the top of the radiator fills with steam and the preasure blows off one of the radiator's side tanks. The side tank splits-off at the top spraying steam and coolant up. I'd be careful opening the hood if you suspect an overheated radiator.
Replaced the turbo once. After that, our mechanic had us run a straight weight heavier oil during the warm weather.
Don't turn off traction control if you have a heavy foot going around corners. |
