I was hoping to keep that one quiet. I figured if I could get it for the minimum bid SWMBO wouldn't mind that I broke the no more guitars promise again.

Heres the link. Plastic Guitar
For 20 bucks, it must be good for something. A planter? A bowl to hold the chips?

Yeah...I was thinkin' this one might be worth a last minute snipe attempt. But I think all the buzz will take it over what I'd want to spend.
That being said.... unless the price goes up into stupidville levels, it will be a good deal for someone.
I've played a couple of them at the tour. They are a freak of nature.

It this a nylon string guitar?
I know the slothead is not definitive but I thought the white tuning axles might be. Also, is 12 fret to the body normal?

Academy came in three flavors:
1) 12 fret slothead
2) 12 fret non-slothead
3) 14 fret non-slothead

The large diameter axles are more typical for nylon, but not unheard of for steel strings. My steel string Academy has the large axles as did some of the early Josh Whites and Folklores.

The bridge on this one is s standard solid steel string bridge, but you could certainly put ball end nylons on it if you wanted to. One knowledgable man with a womans name speculated that the string tension with nylons might not be enough to really move the top. Same problem as Adamas. Some of the other steel stringers have the bridge with the height adjustable saddle.

I'm sure this one on ebay will end up in a good home.

I received a message from a concerned ebay'er:
250149754638 Ovation guitar you are bidding on: I am just another ebay buyer, so please do not tell anyone I told you this - but are you aware that this is a plastic top guitar?

Looks like you've got a secret penpal there, Noah.

I wonder if this public servant sends emails to buyers of certain Martins "I am just another ebay buyer, so please do not tell anyone I told you this - but are you aware that this is a formica guitar?"

Well... it looks like I won't have to stay up late, put on my camo P.J.s and play sniper tonight.
This thing just might go for more than it's new value.

Hamfan already bought an Academy. Outbid me and got it for around $70. This one's way beyond my budget.

Almost $200. The winner bought a broken Academy in June for $15. Maybe he'll sell that one.

I posted earlier that I received a message from a concerned ebay'er:
250149754638 Ovation guitar you are bidding on: I am just another ebay buyer, so please do not tell anyone I told you this - but are you aware that this is a plastic top guitar?
There appears to be a relationship between the person who sent out those messages and the winner of the auction.

Once the seller put it all together, they turned to eBay for help. Check out the feedback they left for each other. The guitar was relisted, but then pulled by the seller while they wait for eBay to do something about the buyer and then give them the go ahead to relist it.
