Location: New South Wales, Australia | Bought my 10 year old daughter a three quarter size guitar about six months ago. She learned to pick out Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and then lost the desire. So the guitar has been gathering dust in her bedroom.
She had the week off school last week because of a bad cold (it's flu season over here at the moment) and although she was feeling better on Friday we decided to keep her home for one more day just to be on the safe side. I usually have a Friday afternoon jam with my garage band and she wanted to come. So I told her she could accompany me and it would give her something to laugh at.
We played for about two hours and my daughter seemed to really enjoy it. When we got home she immediately grabbed her guitar and said she wanted to start playing again and asked if I could teach her a few things. When I asked her what had made her decide to start playing again she said to me....."I watch you play at home all the time and it's ok but I never knew it could be so much fun. You had lots of fun with the band today."
She was right. It's always lots of fun and that's what it's all about. After she played a major scale last night and surprised her mother in the process she said to me ..."do you know you're irrational Dad?"
When we realised she meant inspirational SWMBO nearly fell off her chair. Me....inspirational...who would've thought.
Have fun everyone :D |

Location: New South Wales, Australia | Rugby league, fillhixx. There's an intense rivalry between New South Wales and Queensland and every year they play a State of Origin series.
It's a bit long winded but to make it reasonably simple....years ago all the best league players came to Sydney and because they played in the Sydney competition they were eligible to be picked for New South Wales whether they were from there or not.
Year after year NSW beat QLD by a lot until it had got to the point where it was a non event. So in 1980 they decided to spice things up a bit by allowing Sydney based Queenslanders to play for their state of birth -- hence State of Origin.
A lot of people said it would never work but Queensland came out and beat NSW for the first time in light years and the state of origin concept was born.
They play a best of three series every year and for the rugby league fans it's the highlight of the season -- bigger than the grand final which is the final club match of the year and bigger than international matches.
Queensland won the series this year 2-1 and they love to let us New South Welshmen know all about it. It's mostly a friendly rivalry. |

And I mean the story about your daughter, not the story about the game that used to be rugby league. |
