GC 1127
It had a new body put on and the seller has emailed me that it's A braced. I would buy it in a heartbeat if I didn't have other guitar related things going on. |

Location: Pacific Northwest Inland Empire | Me. Connolly is leaving, to a new owner, if the auction is successful. Dang-fine instrument, and a great deal, too.
Auction closes Sunday night. |

Location: SoCal | Chris, I'm surprised that nobody's bid on Connolly. These are damned fine instruments. I would buy it but I've got a 1627 reissue which is one of my favorite guitars.
This guitar is so good that I know somebody who, after playing the reissue, ordered one from the factory with no electronics, a shiny bowl and a couple of other tweaks, but which is essentially, Connolly! At $500, Connolly's a steal. Somebody here needs to buy this guitar. |

Old Ovations are the equivalent of old mandolin players, they don't make them anymore and the copies always lack something, they never met Bill Monroe.

Location: SoCal | Bailey, normally I would agree with you. But having played GC's of the original vintage and playing the reissue (which is the guitar in the auction with electronics), I can tell you that in this case, the reissue is significantly better. |

This time, I am happy to say, I don't agree with "significantly better". A lot depends on the age of the guitar - primarily, what bracing was used. As Paul knows, I have a great example of an early one.
The GC reissue that I did have a chance to play was great, not taking anything away from it. The guys and gals at the factory have put out several reissues of Ovations and Adamas and captured the magic of the original. |

Good luck with the auction. James |

Location: SoCal | Tony's right (actually, it doesn't hurt all that much to agree with him), it depends on the bracing. The vast majority of the GC models were VT braced. I know people who love them, but to me, the bass tone sounds like plastic. And that was all thru the 70's, until the early 80's when the tops became A braced. And there are some very early ones with a different pattern on them (X braced?) that sound terrific.
But the reissued A braced guitars, to my ears, sound vastly better than the VT braced guitars of the 70's. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | I agree with the man in the hawaiian shirt 100%. The A braced reissue sounds NOTHING like the earlier VT's. Just an amazingly good instrument. Too bad it didn't have a shiny bowl.
I don't remember if I ever heard an X braced GC or not. I assume sounds similar to the old X braced balladeers but maybe a little thinner on the bass.
Playing these older Ovations is really a treat as it brings back all the sound memories that told you why they used to be so good in the first place. Those were some good days.

Location: Pacific Northwest Inland Empire | The second cycle of the auction will be the last. I may be proferring an instrument to an unappreciative populace, present company excepted.
Perhaps it was meant to stay, as I might endure bad kharma, afterward.
Perhaps it needs to go on a limited-engagement tour.
Same may be true for Ol' Josh, but he might not travel well.
I'm planning to deliver Marilyn (1537), to Andrew, personally. Yes, guilty of aiding, abetting, and promoting- guess what- GAS!! |

Location: Boise, Idaho | The last time I was up your way it was right after buying the OFC guitar, so SWMBO wasn't much in the mood to go guitar shopping. I'm now to the point where I have to leave these for those who do not already have "too many" guitars. |

Hell, I'm selling it for a lot less than what I invested in it. "Pearls before swine", I suppose. No offense to the OFC Collective, to be sure. |

I meant that he would be back with the starting bid.
If not, just relist again.
[we need little musical quarter-note gremlins too, to go with my Rossington/Collins quotes] |

Negotiating with one of The Brethren for adoption. May get a real improvement in location, & musicianship. I just couldn't live up to Connolly's expectations.......gonna go eat my heart out, and blubber inconsolably awhile. |
