Tupp, the timeout chair is over in the corner.
And that's just for mentioning Jeb Bush.

George Bush is the one responsable for bring Katrina to N'Awlins so he must be the bad guy. I thought that's what it said on the AOL headlines when I got my mail..... |

the fun and games are over. No more Jeb or fox or gore or you get the picture.
loaded up the pickup with my nephew and 4 rods and a dream.
drove down to cape may and saw a not so pleasant cloud coming over from the delaware side.
first disappointment was Bob jackson's bait and tackle is now closed. He was an old black guy that had a great sense of humor and knew EVERYTHING about what was going on where. Last time I think his son or grandson or nephew was running the store but that was 2 years ago. (and that is never a good sign)
I had to go WAY out of my way to find bait but finally did, of course I got lost on RT 9 and kept getting on the approach to the cape may-lewis ferry.
got to higbees beach, I like fishing the bay side and this beach is a state park and very quiet well at least since they cracked down on the illegal nude bathing and gay cruisers.
Took the wrong path out to the beach and wound up on the hiking trail, not much fun when you are carrying a pile of fishing gear.
Made it to the beach, the kid sits all my newly oiled rods in the sand, the gray cloud is now black and everyone passing us is saying something insightful like "looks like a storm's a brewin" (kill me now) or "what did you catch?" while we are headed TOWARDS the beach.
I immediately get to rigging the lines and baiting the hooks etc. I get the kid to cast. he tries, but i really need to just teach him to cast some day.
as the third rod is set up baited and cast, the first of the raindrops starts falling. at least there are some dolphins to check out, but the green flies are eating us alive because of the wind change. I felt like I was in a unicef commercial. the kid kept spraying me with bug spray, the flies seemed to like me the most.
well the nephew gets a bite, of course I am the one watching his pole well watching all three so I send him over there. he immediately rips the bait out of the fish's mouth. LOL nothing like subtle.
after about an hour now drenched and the rain becomeing more steady we gave up and went for dinner.
Cliff turned me on to this place and sue has been there many times but this was the first time I went. Harpoon henry's formerly wallace's whaler's cove. A typical shore eatery with a great view of the bay and sunset if you get there on time.
the maryland crab soup is superior and so are the onion rings most of the other stuff is passable not gormet but not uneatable.
of course by now the rain stops so we try to decide what to do. being rather wet and miserable we opted to go home and come back next week. (it was getting near dark anyway)
to be continued... |

I bought my first fishing license in many years a month ago, but the only fish I have caught was a small white bass who struck my jig when I was testing my new spinning reel... Anyway, as one who doesn't catch a lot of fish but loves to be out and trying, thanks for the story! |
