The neck is not fully attached to the body. The upper side of the neck, that is. I read on harmony central a review of someone that said it's that way too on his guitar.

It's absolutely ugly, looks like it doesn't supposed to be that way, but if I remember right, I got the guitar like that when I bought it 6 years ago. Other than that it's a pretty good A/E.

Has anyone ever had this problem?

I doubt it is really a "problem". I know that the fretboard on my Elite 1537 is not attached to the soundboard ... they did that on purpose in order to maximize vibration of the top, which is what has the greatest affect on sound. I've heard it called a "floating fretboard". Ovation developed a rock solid neck joining system that doesn't require the fretboard extension to support the neck ... which is probably why your Ovation sounds far better than anything else in the price range.

I don't consider it a problem and don't think it's ugly, assuming you're talking about the floating fretboard. We've seen ugly, when someone decides to screw or glue the fretboard down.

But on my Custom Legend ADII it's not like that, and also on the new LX series they said:

"The Custom Elite LX employs carbon fiber stabilizers to keep the fingerboard perfectly aligned at the neck/body joint."

So it looks like it was a problem they fixed, no?

Some of my Elites have the floating fretboard and others don't. I don't have any 1868s, so I can't check. Like Noah said, a picture might help us tell what you are talking about.

You may laugh, but I never bothered to buy a digital camera. :)

I'm speaking of where the 6 string is.. after the top of the guitar begins, it's floating over the top, but on the bottom side near strings 1 and 2 it's glued.

are your guitar like that?

As already noted by everyone else, your neck if fully connected, just the end of the fingerboard appears to be floating. Normal.
