I would like to survey the forum and capitalize on members' experience by asking the seemingly straight-forward but maybe not so simple question (and sorry if its been asked before)but:
"In your opinion what is the most resonant, sustaining and tonaly-appealing Ovation that you have ever ever played"? and "Has your opinion changed on this issue"?

Tonally appealing? I've played a few that I fell in love with on the spot for different reasons - the Ute, the Fud, JW's Custom, bobbo's 1537 and Cliff's #54 come immediately to mind. Deciding between them is too tough a job for me. |

I'd have to agree with Cliff. 54 is the best I've played. |

Location: SoCal | I'd have to say that the sound I like the best in that regard is my OFC slot. But as Weas said there are a ton of candidates for the top honor, from Clifford's #54 to Whiteboy's Custom Adamas (love that guitar!) to any number of other O's and A's that I've played.
The Ute certainly has the juice, but it's not a guitar I'm in love with. And honestly, I guess I'd have to say that old deep bowl Adamii rule in this catagory. The only exception I can think of is my rebuilt GC 12. That's guitar has major balls and major sustain, far beyond that of mortal wood topped O's..... |

(btw, if you wanna trade your Custom Artist LX for my Hirade, I'm totally open to that discussion)
EDIT: "Whiteboy" ?? |

Agreed !!..I only have 6 & 12 string "Legends" and an "Elite"..between those I would say ,the 6 string "Legend" with Martin MSP 3100 LT gauge 12 - 54 or better..the 12 string with MSP 3000 XL 10 - 47 works out fine... :)

i was overwhelmed with the flavors of ovations and adamii at the southern jam in june. i was blessed to be able to strum some very fine instruments, including a UTE and a #47RI. i remain extremely impressed with my 1688 12 string and have not played another guitar that brings me such acoustic enjoyment. one of these days, i hope to find a six string ovation/adamas that will give me the same elation. |

Jeff's 12 fret cutaway is amazing. As is Cliff's #54. I'm also partial (biased) to #42 for obvious reasons. But as a group, yu'd be hard pressed to find a more responsive top than the U681. Warning, don't play the 12-string version unless you are wearing kevlar underpants.

Wish I knew more about these legendary Fan Club guitars being mentioned; 54, 42 and Ute.
Does anyone care to let the uninitiated in on the story of these three guitars? |

#2: Woz's 1688-8: probably the finest sounding 12 I have heard or played...
#1: My 1687-2...it gets better and better and I have just begun to find its capabilities...
I reserve the right to change the order when 47RI #87 arrives...
 |

My cedar-topped Elite has a really nice warm tone. When I had my 1537 I even thought the cedar top sounded better. (I know...that's blasphemy) I really like the sound of the Adamas II I have also, and am planning to procure an Adamas I and make a comparison, but there is a completely different sound between the Adamas and an Elite. I can't say one is better than the other, just different. Both guitars are phenominal though, and I would be so bold as to say they play and sound better than any Martin, Gibson, Taylor, or Laravee that I've ever played or heard. |
