I have a 9158 that I got new in '02. It has developed all the little cracks that are the reason I avoid cheaper Ovation cases. Cracks around all the little metal bumpers, cracks around the hinges, etc.
So last night I was around musician friends (not to be confused with Musician's Friend) and saw an SKB with a Takamine in it. This is the case that's actually shaped like a guitar. It looked like a better shell than the 9158. Anyone have any experience with this type of Ovation case?

I have one with the 6774. Good case. No problems.

I had an skb case with a cp2001 at one time, and it seemed better than the factory cases, 8158 or 9158. The newest 9158 I got with the ute is the best O case I've seen other than the one that came with my baritone. It is like the 97 collector case (only bigger) in that it's solid wood with a nice liner.

I would always choose the wooden Gieb or TKL case over a molded piece of plastic. Dave

the wooden Gieb or TKL case
Dave, I agree with you: I've had three or four of the Gieb cases and tey were great cases: and the interiors are some of the best I've ever seen...The pre 2000 Taylor high end (brown w/red) poodle cases are really nice as well...That said, I have three of the 9158's and I really like them...They do the job: but you have to put the guitars in them for any of them to work!
