Location: Latitude 39.56819, Longitude -105.080066 | Had a late day golf tournament that SWMBO was not too happy with :( and then I played like crap  which made me not very happy. So what do you do.
I got home around 8:00 tonight and decided to check out the stereo set of modified Oktava MK-012 microphones that I had received on Friday :) (but hadn't really had time to check them out yet). The mics came with 4 capsules each and I just grabbed the first ones in the box so I don't know if they were the best for the job at hand or not. I pointed one mic at the soundhole and the other at the 12th fret, set the volumes and pushed the record button.
Anyway, after playing around for about 30 minutes, I remembered what fun a lot of us had when Dave presented a set of sound clips and asked us to identify the guitars :p ....so I decided to throw some together and play the game.
Now, this is not a test of my guitar playing ability because frankly, playing golf for 6 1/2 hours in the heat did not do my hands or my disposition any favors :o ....but the guitars sound the same whether I play worth a shit or not.....so here we go.
The 8 guitars in no particular order are:
Adamas #47RI
Tak EF75
Tak EF417S
Collings DS2HMhA
Taylor DDSM
Lowden S23C
Martin HD28VS
Ovation DS768
Since Dave threw in a ringer with the UKE, I did the same with the DS768.
I will let everyone take their best guess until tomorrow night and then let you know who is the closest and see if we can eventually come up with a winner over the next few days. I will award a prize if someone actually gets them all correct with less than 4 guesses  (that means within 3 tries).
Now, on my Focal Twin6's, they sound pretty distinct and I can easily tell them apart but if you are listening over computer speakers, etc.....then all bets are off....they will probably all sound the same (except for the playing of course).
I recorded this over a 30 minute period so they are similar but not perfect and mistakes are prevalent throughout.....but they should serve the purpose for the contest.
ENJOY and GOOD LUCK!

Can't possibly identify them all. But on 5/8 inch speakers buried inside a plastic IBM housing I like the sound of #3. Please god, don't let #3 be the Taylor or Mike will never let me hear the end of it.

5 closer to the OFC
6 closer to my Martin D-25K2 with old, old strings |

As was said before, there isn't a dog in the bunch, and I really had trouble depicting any that stood out. Sure you didn't just fiddle with the volume and tone knobs on your recorder? That said, I believe 1, 5 and 8 sounded a bit brighter and crisper, but all were nice. |

Location: Latitude 39.56819, Longitude -105.080066 | Mike, I thought about that after I worked up the samples....most of the readers are Ovation owners and won't be familiar with the other guitars.....
but a lot of us own the Taks and there are quite a few Martin players and Taylor haters....so I decided to run with it. I probably should have thrown in a 1581 and a FD14 but they weren't sitting out.
Anyway....here are the 1st day results.
Dave....you're safe.
Lanika.....2 of 8
Jeffery.....3 of 8
Trader Jim......5 of 8 (OUTSTANDING!)
MusicMike.......0 of 8 (how did you miss the baritone!)
Cliff.....1 of 8 (thanks for the hard work you put into it)
SO, no prize yet.....and remember that the Lowden and Tak 417 are both parlor sized guitars.
I am curious who will be able to figure this out now through the process of elimination. The wabbit, the waskel, the slipkid, or some other unknown who will step forth to claim the prize! |

A. I didn't even see the tenor...
B. I had just returned from a bad day at Golf! (Really!)
C. Never heard nor have I seen a longneck...
D. They all sounded the same through my 8 year old computer speakers...
I'll think of additional excuses later...

Live, the guitars all have subtle but significant differences and sitting in front of them with your eyes closed (after listening to them with your eyes opened), I think the guitars would be easier to distinguish.
NEW RESULTS.....
After a major revamp Jeffery is 3 of 8 (just like last time :p )
Lanika has improved to 3 of 8 :)
Vision has a vision  with 4 of 8
Trader Jim is still kicking ass with his original picks! |

NOW, it is obvious that #4 is the TAK 75 and #5 is the DS768 baritone.
Also, I blew it with Jeff the first go round.
He had 4 correct but has gone downhill based on my poor scoring.
Still waiting for that winner! |

~FINAL TALLY's
Trader Jim.....changed and dropped to 3 of 8
...........changed again and finished 4 of 8 :(
Vision changed and remained at 4 of 8 :p
Jeff made a noble effort but mixed up the Danelectro and Warrior
Lanika shouldn't have even played! (but I'm glad you did) :D
MusicMike made a inspiring comeback...3 of 8 ;)
and the ultimate winner is.....Jeffery.....
MAYBE....who posted some answers and then emailed me with different answers. One set is correct and one isn't.
So Mr. Whitehead.....in order to ultimately claim first place, bragging rights, and an unbelievable prize....you need to decide which guess is your 3rd and final answer.
The one you posted:
1. 47
2. Collings
3. Martin

... lightning bolt minutes later struck his bag and push cart as he was holding onto one of his clubs killing him instantly...on the top of the first photo you will see what was left of his driver....also in a later photo are little brown clumps now only ¼" thick which used to be golf balls....The old man was literally cooked. Most of the items in the bag simply disintegrated from the heat and intense initial zap including the labels to his ping irons and Cleveland woods which popped off and the electricity burned holes into the bottoms of the clubs. |
