Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | After his name was raised on another forum about great guitarists from the 1960's, I picked up the DVD special on Les Paul celebrating his 90th birthday entitled "Chasing Sound." I recall somebody saying this may have been broadcast on the Discovery Channel. This is a terrific DVD on Les Paul, not only as a musician, but as an inventor. I was not aware of how much credit goes to Les Paul for opening the door to our electric guitar, effects and recording world. The cover of the DVD refers to him as the architect of rock and roll. Available for less than $12 on Amazon. If I lived in New York, I definitely would make a trip to the Iridium Jazz Club to see him play on a Monday evening, if he is still doing it. |

He IS still doing Iridium.
I haven't seen him(yet), but Rick has.
Evidently he talks more than he plays, throws some tasty riffs in here and there . . .
It's a pricey endeavour (as is everything in Manhattan), but worth going to.
I need t'do it. |

As I recall, when they got to rock and roll, the only guitars they showed being destroyed by rockers were Fenders, Jimmy Hendrix burning his, Townsend smashing his, while the Gibsons played sweetly in the background. Subtle, but funny. |
