New Ovation Owner - Already modded in XLR Output

electrorocket Posted 2024-03-27 4:46 PM (#559167) Subject: New Ovation Owner - Already modded in XLR Output Joined: March 2024 Posts: 2 Hey all, I just got an Ovation E-Acoustic Guitar Elite TX Mid Cutaway(1778TX-5-G) and I'm loving it. It's my first Ovation! It plays really smooth, and sounds great, especially plugged in. I'm a natural born modder, so I found the XLR kit and drilled it in first thing. Then I noticed that the XLR out didn't work unless the tuner was on. Weird. Then I read about the dummy plug thing, and thought that was dumb. And the special XLR cable thing. I didn't like that either. So I just soldered pin 1 to the shell on the output jack itself, and that works great! It's powered by phantom, and the 1/4" still works fine too. My only problem, and this is from even before the mod, is that the tuner does not mute the output. I'm used to that from other electric acoustics. Is that just not the way this one works, or is there something wrong with it? I will have to undo it, and either add a power switch or just get a dummy plug. I hate the idea of not being able to use a standard XLR.Or maybe I can just build a very short custom XLR with the required short in it.
