Location: Orlando, FL | Thursday evening my wife's sister was rushed to the hospital. She is was in an "unresponsive state" She has been unconscious since then she was in acute renal failure, but that is slowly improving and doctors are hopeful that the right treatment will restore function before the kidneys are damaged. The doctors have no clue what the problem is (possibly incephalitus, awaiting test results) and are treating various symptoms as best they can. She is currently on a ventilator and even though the docs seem somewhat positive, everyday seems worse, and nobody seems to know what to do for her. My wife and I have spent most of time at the hospital for the last few days.
My wife has always been very close to her sister. It has already been a tough year her Dad passed away in January, and being daddy's little girl, she really hasn't recovered from that.
I would appreciate any prayers and positive thoughts you could send our way.
Thanks - Steve |

Location: Orlando, FL | Update: my wife's sister is in a coma - I'm not quite sure if this is due to the sedatives they are giving her or if she will still be like this when they wean her off the drugs. The docs say her kidney function is getting much better and some other vital signs are good.
She is being treated for viral incephalitus right now even though the test will not come back for a day or so, but they believe this treatment will cover a broad spectrum of possibilities. Her CT scans have shown no signs of a neurological event, but they are keeping an eye on brain function. She has a MRI scheduled tonight and another EEG tomorrow.
We are told recovery will be a long process. We have to focus on small improvements for now.
Thanks for all the prayers! It means a lot to us and I know it helps.

Location: Orlando, FL | Great News! My sister-in-law came out of her coma this morning.
Yesterday the neurologist told us she had extensive brain damage and may never wake up.
Today when the same neurologist asked her how she was feeling she said - "Like sh!t warmed over!"
Thank you so much to everyone for the prayers! We really feel like this was a miracle! |

Location: Orlando, FL | We still don't have a cause. I'm pretty sure all of the viral tests were negative. I do know that she had just started some new medication and was a little concerned because it was apparently a very strong drug. She is on meds for other issues, so they are looking at drug side effects and drug interactions now.
Before this she was a normal (for our family), healthy 46 year old. This came out of nowhere. Scary stuff. |

| DZ- I'm assuming she's local to you in C. FL. area - had she gone swimming in local lakes? There were those 2 or 3 kids who were stricken by amoebas. Any way, that's of more interest to the docs. Whatever caused it, she's out of it now. |
