Hey Guys.
New Member here.
I own one of these Guitars and have for quite some time.
However, mine is slightly different than any others I've seen.
Here's the dilemma that I am seeking answers for:

Every feature about my guitar and everything I read and see about this model suggest mine is a Celebrity "Deluxe".
However, the label inside does not say Deluxe, just Celebrity and model number.
The odd thing is inlaid in the 12th fret, is the word "Limited", which I have not found on any other Ovation I've looked at.

Could this be a "tweener" model maybe produced between the regular Celebrity and the Deluxe editions or what ?

Any input would be greatly appreciated....Thx

Yours might be a limited model they did in 2000. I recall seeing those in the stores, but as far as I could tell the were just like any other CS257 Celebrity Deluxe, possibly with a special top.

If you have a look at catalogues from the 90s they explain that "Deluxe" means multiple soundholes similar to Elite, and the regular Celebrity had round center soundhole like Balladeer or Legend. Not sure if they bothered to print that on the labels. I think they also did special runs for stores with colours and labels etc, often these were sold for a cheaper price than regular production guitars as a promo.

For reference the "unlimited" CS257: http://web.archive.org/web/20100104084911/http://ovationguitars.com...
One possible difference of the "Limited" - besides obviously the fretboard - could be the electronics. Does the electronic of your guitar have a designation like OP24/OP24+ or Optima instead of OP30? The structural differerence is as described by d'ovation.

Thanks to all for your responses. A lot of good information.
My guitar has the OP24+ electronics.

According to the price sheet the 257 was available between 1997 and 2006. In 2005 and 2006 there were also models with CCBQ FGB and VY that were listed $70 more than the regular models. The limited were CS2000 and CS2001. Maybe you can find pictures of those for comparison. Maybe someone grabbed a wrong neck during production and it's a one off.

It looks like a straight -P top to me.

The intended data for the celebrities according to the 2002 catalog:

Maybe CS really means "Custom Shop"

Looking again on a different screen I rather think it is -CCB finish. In which case the not quilted top would make it special. Regarding the label - I don't think that the label of the Celebrity Deluxe ever stated "Deluxe", just "Celebrity".

Hello, Everyone,
Mike S., from Ottawa, ON., CANADA here. Has ANYONE? who owns and /or repaired an Ovation Celebrity ever got their hand/ arm scratched/ injured, while going through the open access hole at the back? Apparently, on YT recently, a popular Canadian luthier I'm subscribing to at present, but not much longer, did so, and called Ovations a bad name, i.e., "snow shoes", in the process! I've never seen or heard anything like it.

The bowl and manhole cover lip are fiberglass, so it's possible to cut/scratch yourself.

Sounds like he's a sissy.

That would be my guess, but Dan's being too polite....

Mike... drop him a line and suggest he change professions if guitar work is getting too dangerous. Maybe a product inspector at the cotton ball factory.

Hello, Everyone,
Thanks for all the kind replies. I've actually had correspondence with this fellow on YT, from his repair shop/ website near Toronto. He does excellent work on every other brand of guitar, except for Ovation? In most of his guitar repair videos that I've seen on YT, he's wearing a hoodie, so his arms are covered. For the Ovation Celebrity repair, however, it was early summer at the time, and he's wearing a short sleeve Hawaiian-type shirt, which was, apparently, a bad move on his part! Ovation guitars are his Kryptonite, and, as far as I can tell, he just plain hates them. Here in Ottawa, my 1993 Ovation goes to my old guitar tech for maintenance/repair. He's actually a custom electric guitar builder, but he respects my wishes, and sees working on my Ovation acoustic/electric as a good challenge for his craft. The original mantra for the OFC has always been true.
