Been awhile since I’ve posted but have a question.
Does anyone here use any strings larger than 10/47 on their ovation 12er’s and keep it in standard tuning, I don’t like tuning down. Thought about going to 11’s or 12’s but was wondering if it might cause problems.
Thanks for any response or info you might have. |

Location: SoCal | I got my 1688 (Adamas I 12 string) in April 1996. First thing I did was put on 12 string mediums (11 or 12's, I don't remember what they were). And I saw the top pulling up from the string pressure. Took them off immedietly and put on lights (10-47). I've used them ever since. Don't go heavier than the lights. It's not worth it. I use Elixir phos/bronze 10-47. Wonderful strings. |

Location: Troutdale oregon | Thanks I’ll probably stick with the 10/47’s. The 6756 is holding up well with those. |

Location: Utah | Though not an Ovation, I have a very good wooden 12 string guitar purchased new in 1977. I've run lights on it and the action is as good today as when new. Sometimes I will put on 11's and tune it down 1/2 or even 1 step. A 12 string is supposed to sound jangly, so the lighter strings sound just fine for its purpose. |
