| What was your first O, and no I dont mean O that you got from your parents for telling them that you got an F just because you skipped school to go and hang out with friends who had guitars :D
And do you still have it?
This topic has probably been covered but I just had to ask:)

Location: North Carolina | I bought a Balladeer (model# ?) back in the early '80s to use with a band. It worked well in that setting, but I was less than impressed with it's unplugged sound. It had a wolf tone at about Bb that I found annoying, and didn't have that Whump on the low E I'd gotten used to with Martins. It did, however have a wonderful neck and action.
I've long since sold/traded it, but now that I gig with Ovations almost exclusively, I wish I still had it. |

Location: Caribou, ME | 1987 I took a sunburst 70s (US) Applause in on trade. I sold it to a kid that took it to a bible camp, where, while he was out of the room, it "fell over" and snapped the neck in two. Yeah, right!
So I bought it back for $5.
I spoke to a young lady at Ovation who was very helpful. She sold me a NOS neck from the warehouse, probably with a long faded cosmetic flaw, for $85. Much to my surprise it had an Ovation headstock, not the Applause oversized one. But it was aluminum like an old Applause. |

Saw some on Ebay that were cheaper than others...and... they were called "Celebrities", so I figured they had to be good. Then, after buying one, I found out that they were made overseas and the "good ones" were made here in the US. Started buying US models, and as most here can tell you, I've owned a few ;) (the name Trader Jim tell you anything)
Now for the second part of your question...
You must be kidding. I don't have some I bought last month. :D |

It developed a series of cracks in the finish over the years, and finally split the wood last year and then it fell apart. I couldn't play it anymore. Right now I have it disassembled and hanging on the wall as kind of an art piece. An "explosive view" to say the least. |

Played that until I got a Balladeer (1111-1) from a pawn shop at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Sold the Applause in the late 80's and left the O with my son in 1997. I later inquired about getting the O back and was informed that it had been stolen while he was in the Navy in Washington state. I really liked that one, my first O. |

| A 1637-1 Matrix (hardwood fretboard, not the aluminum variety) I picked up in used in 1985 soon after I graduated college. Kept it (and played it as my beater guitar) until earlier this summer when I finally pared with it. |

Sold 2 guitars and my wife paid for the rest. 30 years later she bought the OFC, so I could have something to play at our anniversary. The same songs sound better on the OFC. Still have the Matrix, though, and it still sounds good. |

...sorry, wrong thread.
Never was much on model numbers when I bought my first, about 71-72. It had a neck like a 2 X 4 compared to the smoked front 'Jim Croce' Balladeer my buddy had, which had inspired me to get one.
Second was the Custom Balladeer I still have.
Traded that first one off for a white Balladeer that wanted to write a song with me. |

Looking back, I wish I would have bought the 1868-5 that was hanging close to it. I might still have that one. No way I'm getting rid of my second Ovation. I would split it down the middle and give it to my two sons before I'd sell it. |

Location: Budd Lake, NJ | Hi, Guitargirl--
There are several of us female-folk posting in now; I check the board just about every day, even if I don't do a lot of posting (biding my time, so to speak. ;) ) A word of warning: never have spillables on their way between keyboard and mouth while you're here; you may live to regret it. :D
I am pleased to see that there is someone else who also openly admits to having a banjo (there seems to be an unusual amount of unfathomable prejudice against them here); mine's named Twang, for obvious reasons. (I also find it highly amusing that two female O-owners will admit to having banjos, but the fellows won't.) My mando is Plink, the fiddle is Shriek, and my bass is Sugar (very sweet to play.) Add in Gertrude, Jewel, Blanca and Jazzey (my O's), with Jacquita and Gilda (my Guilds) and you've met the family.
Make yourself comfy; this is a really helpful, great place to be.

My only other Ovation is a Std. Balladeer (1861)in cherryburst  that I bought in '98. It's in for some fretwork right now, it's been a real workhorse for the past 8 years.

Seeing as I know about 7 chords and one picking pattern, I am technically just a banjo owner, not a "Twangsta" at all. :( (But in my heart I am. :D )
