Hello! Rick Emerson from the Philadelphia, PA NW exurbs.

One thing and another, I'm back (used to own) to looking for an (relatively) inexpensive Elite (not Celebrity or Applause). That means used, of course. No problem there but... many of the candidates have top cracks running along the seam where to top pieces are butted together (or are they solid???). They're good for me - argue the price down over the crack. It's bad for me because the top's not sound. IIRC the bridge has a long-term record of lifting.

Cosmetics aside, a) are most of these cracks really bad news, and b) chances of repairing the top?

Obviously I've Googled the question. Most replies are either typical "well, it's plastic, d00d" BS or clueless about guitars behave. The only good news is I found my way here. :)

I'm sure this is a FAQ, but didn't find it here.

Hello Rick.
I own a coupla guitars with cracked tops.
Depending on the guitar, they may sound just fine.

Only a few people can respond in the Welcome Center.
You have been "upgraded" and may post your question in other sections.
I recommend "General Posting" because that is where "the action" is.

Welcome.
