You're right Paul, it seems the 80s are more rare than the 70s, and the 90s certainly more rare than the 80s. I have '94 1117 in the Tobacco Burst (which is orangey-yellowish) and it's the only one I've ever seen like it.

Due to the "A" bracing, they just sound so damn good.
Depends on the year, my '78 1117 has the much-maligned VT bracing which I think is actually a very nice and unique sound, but very little low end presence -- and very different from A braced Legends.

Just hustled over to the guitar center listed above to look at the 1980's 1117. Gone. I'm not in a hurry. If the right guitar comes down the pike, I'll think about it. If not, well, I'm massively blessed to have the guitars I have. Maybe n early 80's Legend, or a mid 80's to early 90's with an OP24. Not in a hurry, just watching.......

I have a 1117-4 who's serial number puts it at 85 though that seems to be a year without mention in the catalog. It still has the AAA top with super tight grain of the previous years but after this that only seems to show up on custom legends. Great guitar with that A brace full warm tone, great for jazz really. I got it at the low point of Ovation values a few years back Skipping the cutaways gives you a lot of bang for the buck with a bit more volume and tone
