Do you really want a forum where Ovation aficionados will be Praising OLD Ovation guitars.

Probably not a good business decision when you're trying to sell new products.
At least it's still in the greeking phase. |

We've been here a LOOOOOOOGGGGGGG time
I assume they see that and figure that they can do it.
but
you will need to hire a person full time to police the forums
and they are on a skeleton crew now |

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | Forums are certainly here to stay, but no one has found a way to turn back the clock.
Forums were never meant to be "a social gathering place" online. But, as there was no Facebook before 2005, in addition to being the collaborative resources, people pushed hard to force them into being social networks. This happened on ALL forums. Once social platforms came to be, that "social" aspect of forums moved to where they could thrive.
Forums have something that social networks do not. History. Historical data to be specific. Until there is a way to combine a "collaborative resource" platform, with a "social community" platform, forums will exist and thrive. And it's not like it hasn't been tried. I'm not sure if Facebook still has its Forums, but they lacked the required control mechanisms. Microsoft had SharePoint which only works in the corporate environment when there is 100% participation.
It's all about the right tool for the right job.

You never say “never” or “impossible” but, like a few that still stop by here these days, I was lucky enough to enjoy some of those days firsthand and, much as I would love to see it, those days have probably left us for good. Enjoy the guitars, the history and most of all the friends but the world keeps spinning forward... |

I think Waskel still checks in once in awhile. I miss Cliff and Jeff. There was another guy who always complained about his health and life issues, but I've chosen to forget his screen name. |

Location: When?? | There seems to be an online forum available for just about any topic one can think of. Ours just happens to be about a particular brand of guitars. But it also breeds friendships and learning about each others' lives and interests apart from the guitars. Personally, I am thankful for both. |

You mean Glen, I think it was, the guy who could brighten a room by leaving it. His wife finally died and I think he did too. Cliff left New Jersey and I think he moved to Florida and moved into Glen's batchelor pad trailer. Or maybe I have that wrong........ |

I was going to look up Cliff the next time I was in New York or New Jersey, but I haven't been back there in at least 10 years. I've about had it with the big cities, especially after being the victim of a "smash and grab" out of our rental van north of San Francisco a couple days ago. That's what happens when they reduce property thefts from a felony to a citation in order to avoid overcrowded jails.
Good to know Waskel is still around. I need to find him. A bunch of my Ovations need new strings. |

That was in 2008 at Amelia Island -- 12 years ago.
This place, in the first 6-7 years, was like the Cheers bar on tv. It was fun, a bit rowdy at times, and highly informative regarding Ovation guitars. The people who hung around could take being teased and could give it right back. Not everybody liked it, but for a lot of us, it was home for a few years.
I miss it, but then, nothing lasts forever....... |

I miss it, but then, nothing lasts forever....... What's interesting to me is that a lot of what happened on here in the early years, now happens on Facebook with mostly a different group of people. Mainly the ones that "left" the forum because they wanted to use an environment more appealing to a social club or as you pointed out... "Cheers". I mean the forums were fun when there wasn't another option, but it's a heckuva lot easier to banter on facebook and I don't have to refresh the screen... or wait... I can go about my day, and I'll be notified when the conversation continues.
I belong to several groups, even Ovation guitar groups and other guitar groups, and car groups, and music gear groups, and someone posts something and it creates a massive thread that goes every which way, and that even happens with just friends.
There's a long thread now between several people from here on Facebook that has to do nothing with music. Most of us became friends via this Forum... but we use Facebook because.... well... right tool right job. I do find it interesting. |

After lunch coffee, but basically the same here.
Glad this joint is still open.
