Hi,

picked up a 1976 Balladeer two weeks ago.  I was changing strings recently and notice that the action was pretty high for what I like. Started going through a setup (checking relief, saddle, nut) and found the relief was unusually high. As I contemplated weather I really wanted to mess with the relief I remembered running into the same problem on my 1615. Turned out there were still the factory shims under the bridge in it. Removed most of them and the action was super. Decided to check under the Balladeer's bridge and sure enough, they were still there. Pulled 2 out and the action was great. Actually pulled all 3 out but got some fret buzzing above the 10th so I put one back in. Anyone else finding original number of shims in their older Ovations?

Tim

I have found shims under a number of the saddles of the guitars I've bought, one the first things I do when i get a new/old guitar is restring it and check for shims most the time there's 3 there I pull 2 and it plays perfect.
