Hi there,
I can't find any specific references to this, so I thought I'd ask. What's the truss rod nut size for a Thunderhead?
Cheers,
Kev

Hi again, it’s hard to measure, but looks to be around 6mm, but I’m not sure. Going to try to post a picture ...

Hi. Well, I tried a 6mm socket and it was too small, and a 7mm was too big, so I went for a 6.35mm - 1/4" wrench on eBay, so fingers crossed.
Couldn’t work out how to post a pic.

I would get a small set, likely SAE because metric wasn't that popular in the 60's yet. The storm series went though some minor design changes back then, and while the adjustment nut might be the same on all of them, it might not. It's best to just get a small cheap set of sockets from local grocery/dollar or whatever store just to measure.

Hiya, and thanks for the info. The quarter inch wrench will be here in a day or so. I’ll see how I get on with it, then, if it doesn’t fit, will look for a set of SAE sockets as you suggest.
Cheers,
Kev

For anyone else looking for this wrench, I contacted Ovation and here's what they said. The part is available from Ovation dealers (Sweetwater Music in the USA, GEWA MUSIC GMBH - www.gewamusic.com in Europe). It costs $3.99 and has the following part number:

950033-X (OVA WRENCH K-BAR SHORT HANDL K)

I've got a feeling you've been mislead. Your Thunderhead has a simple truss rod not a K-Bar that is used on the Acoustic guitars (that don't have a truss rod). I'm guessing the person you talked to, didn't know you had an electric (semi-hollow) guitar.

Hmmm ... They did provide a pic (cant work out how to post pix here), and it did look like a normal truss rod wrench, so maybe they're referring to a k-bar when they mean something else. Anyway, still have the 1/4 inch tool on order so hopefully that'll settle it.

Update. The 1/4 inch wrench arrived and fits/works perfectly.
