Location: Nashville, TN | In my quest to find good acoustic/elec 'almost solid' body guitars I have been thinking about a Guild Songbird..any thoughts out here? I've tried the Gibson SST's & they are not working for me...love my 90's Vipers:-) Dan |

Location: Scotland | Ive seen a few Songbirds with neck-set issues, so watch out for that. They're pretty good but let down by the Fishman electronics. Nothing a good outboard preamp could fix. Personaly I'd stick with the Vipers. |

Interesting you should mention her, because that's what came to mind when I saw the header. I've always felt it was an unfortunate choice of guitars to match with such an outstanding voice. |

Location: Scotland | Not really, the Songbird is a solidbody electric-acoustic, just like the Viper. The VXT is a solidbody electric guitar capable of producing acoustic sounds and as such is a different animal altogether. |

Location: Minden, Nebraska | A-B comparison is the only way for you to know, Dan, which you already know. I've had a couple of Songbirds, as I was a Guild player before switching to Ovations. The Songbird has a cool vintage Guild vibe to it, and is light, but the if my memory serves me well, the electronics on it were much more akin to the Chet Atkins than to the Viper. The neck joint construction isn't as good, either. |

I don't know how the guitar would sound if played by me or anybody else, but the combination of her voice and guitarwork sounds very appealing in my ears. |

Location: big island | this is one of the reasons i appreciate this forum so much. i had never heard of eva cassidy until i read this thread. now i know her biography and have listened to her songs that have been uploaded to youtube. although she is from maryland, she was much more popular outside of the u.s., especially in the u.k.

Location: big island | besides my wife, i think that eva cassidy has become by far my favorite female vocalist. the pipes on that woman are magnificent. i just downloaded about a dozen of her songs. phenomenal!
check her version of cheek to cheek on youtube and listen to her fields of gold |

Location: Scotland | Oh Puleese. Eva Cassidy is one of those artists whose fame is directly proprotional to her unfortunate and untimely demise rather than her talent. She was OK, but if she was still alive nobody would give a flying f**K. And her actual career proves that.... the vultures flocked when she became wormfood. |

Dying seems to be a great career move. Maybe she was influenced by Buddy and Stevie Ray, nobody raaly cared about them when they where alive either. |

When I first heard her recordings I thought, "Who is this woman? I gotta get more." And I did. It was only subsequently that I learned she had died. Everyone I know who has not heard of her reacts the same way when I play her CDs for them. That voice, her guitar and interpretive skills, no, that's not magnified by her death.
But I do wish she'd used a different guitar. |
